If you don't like children, get a vasectomy...OUCH! 8O

I agree, or at least realize even with birth control there is still a chance and take responsibility for a life if one comes from that, by at very least putting it up for adoption.

Of course every life is precious. But those lives must also include those who have already been born, and who may not have been born into affluence. Having a whole pay check without deductions and taxes can't justify refusing living children or adults a hand up.

Of course, people need some level support at any age

But without an attitude of entitlement.

Why not? If it keeps people from starving, or going without medication or shelter, what's wrong with using tax money to do it?

You have change the context of the discussion.
I wasn't talking about people who are starving, need medical assistance and/or are homeless.

I've said this to you before:
Welfare, etc, is a safety net for those who need it.
It is not for people who abuse the system.

I have a problem with generations of people from the same family who have the attitude that society owes them and choose to abuse social benefits.
I also have a problem with having to pay for other people's children.
That is their choice.
What does it have to do with me?

My parents got 5 pounds each from the government when they arrived here, had to reside wherever the government chose for a number of years, raised 2 children without any government support what-so-ever.
My father worked 3 jobs to get ahead.
Is there any wonder why I have the values I have?

I appreciate living in a country that has a good welfare system.
I appreciate our healthcare system that is for everyone.
I appreciate living in the best country in the world.
I was lucky.
And I don't have an attitude of entitlement. 8)

Erm...
We seem to have gone way off topic. <chuckle>

Well, of course the social safety net should be for those in need. But it's also true that generations of people in need had existed prior to said social safety net. Sure, there are those who abuse it, but many more do not. And we also have to look at the other side of the equation - - business works as few people for as long as they can, paying them as little as they can get away with. If business people stopped looking at what they do as a get-rich-quick-scheme, stopped trying to convince us that a certain amount of unemployment is good, and started realizing that paying a good wage with benefits is a long range investment, then in the long run they will make more money as their workers are able to buy more products.
Sorry that I got off topic. But, if people have more prosperity to raise children, there is going to be less abortions... So I guess there was a tie in!

I wonder what percentage of abortions are simply a matter of convince. People who don't want their lifestyle and or career upset.

That does happen quite a bit. But I can't imagine a woman having an abortion in the final days of her pregnancy just because she thinks a baby would cramp her style.

First of all:
*I'm* not rich.
My mother had me tested.

Yes, that was a long bow to draw.
But then again, so was mine.

Can't argue with that.
But that has nothing to do with what I said about attitude.

I know.
It is a standing joke that I am disseminating throughout the website.
"I,m not an a***hole. My mother had me tested."
"I'm not negative. My mother had me tested."
Etc.

It is taken from The Big Bang Theory where Sheldon says: "I'm not crazy. My mother had me tested."
I suspect it is an autistic perseveration thingie in me.
