AP is reporting the list is down to six contenders:

- Senator Elizabeth Warren
- Senator Kamala Harris
- Rep. Val Demings
- Gov. Michele Lujan Grisham
- Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms
- Ambassador Susan Rice

Tim will be happy to see Lujan Grisham on the list after she failed to make the previous eight-person list I posted. VS will be happy not to see Tammy Duckworth

I am excited about Lance Bottoms and somewhat about Harris. I wouldn’t want it to be Warren who is too left-wing for me. I don’t know as much about the others although Demings would seem very advantageous electorally, as a black former police officer from Florida. Lujan Grisham might help with Biden’s relatively poor polling with Hispanics and Latins but I think that effect is overrated.

Interesting that Klobuchar and Whitmer are apparently both off the list but perhaps suggests that Biden is confident about Minnesota and Michigan, where to be fair you’d expect him to do well. Not surprising to see Abrams off the list because Bottoms is better.

So my picks in order are:

1) Keisha Lance Bottoms
2) Kamala Harris
3) Val Demings
4) Michele Lujan Grisham
5) Susan Rice (I’m sure she’d do the job well but I don’t think she’d enhance the ticket)
6) Elizabeth Warren

Hillary Clinton lost Michigan in 2016, and wasn’t far from losing Minnesota.

If I were Biden, I wouldn’t take either state for granted.

Chief Justice Roberts has dissented from the conservative wing of the Supreme Court many times.

Klobuchar would have been a disaster because she had the opportunity to prosecute Derek Chauvin in a previous excessive force case back when she was a DA.

She also sent a 17 year old black teenager to prison for murder and a life sentence. But a witness recently recanted and Klobuchar has done nothing to get him out of prison.

No surprise she was not picked.

I don't know if Warren is more liberal than the others, some of the others I'm not familiar with.

I couldn't speculate who Biden will choose at this point.

I also don't think "native American DNA gate" will hurt Warren because Trump's native American base isn't strong enough.

I thought Biden was accused of sexual assault?

Is that just being ignored for the time being or does he still get to run?

He will still run. The sexual assault allegation isn’t viewed as credible, particularly after it came out that his accuser has a history of lying in court.

I think the fact that Warren came in third in her own state in the Democratic primary hurts her enough that she won't be Biden's pick. I'd be hard pressed to vote for a ticket that she was on.

The NYT is today somewhat contradicting the AP story.

Notable things from the NYT story:

- the eight women in the AP story do seem to be amongst the frontrunners but other candidates are still being considered
- these candidates include Duckworth, Whitmer, Senator Tammy Baldwin (WI), and Governor Gina Raimondo (RI).
- a few candidates have fallen out of the running: Klobuchar and Sen. Maggie Hassan (NH) have been vetted but are not strongly considered any more. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (NV) withdrew herself from consideration midway through. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (also NH) declined to be vetted as she saw little chance of success and wants to focus on re-election to the Senate.
- it’s not clear what is going on with Stacey Abrams, who apparently says she is not being considered while the campaign insist they are considering her.
- the priority for the campaign is someone who will be able to help run the White House, rather than electoral concerns.

That’s potentially 17 candidates from 14 different states plus Washington DC. Crazy!

I didn’t know anything about Gina Raimondo or Maggie Hassan before I read that article. Hassan and Shaheen are the only two women in history to serve as both governor and senator, which probably makes them strong candidates... but then, Tim Kaine was both a governor and a senator and made a pretty uninspiring VP candidate.

VP candidates have to be somewhat “uninspiring” because, otherwise, they could take the thunder away from the Presidential candidate.

Case in point: Sarah Palin, “inspiring” in all the wring ways.

Or there was Quayle who was boring and uninspiring to the point where his uninspiringness brought him and Bush negative attention."Your no Jack Kennedy"

There was a joke from the late 80's you Kraftie might remember it:

Nixon- "I'm not a crook"

Reagan- "I'm not asleep"

Quayle- I'm Jack Kennedy"
