What was the goal of the people who tried to storm the capital building, or what did they hope to get out of it. Since explosive devices were found, did they just want to plant bombs and blow the building up?

The bombs were planted in other locations--the Democratic and Republican national offices.

They were trying to stop the certification of Biden as president and presumably certify Trump.

But how does storming the capital building accomplish that though? What were they going to do once they got inside? Plus if these people want to take over America so bad, wouldn't it make more sense to overthrow the government entirely, rather than try to make the government believe things, like this man is President, over this man, etc. Wouldn't it make more sense to overthrow the government so you can be your own goverment, rather than try to force the government to believe things, they will most likely not accept?

Were the bombs that were planted in other places, detonated? I couldn't find much on that so far.

I think that they wanted to stop the count and replace the VP with someone who would unconstitutionally refuse to count the votes from the swing states so that Trump would win.

It's pretty pathetic that they even thought that it could succeed. They certainly aren't the brightest people around.

No, they were diffused.

Why didn't the bombers detonate them before they were defused?

No idea. Perhaps they were on a timer.

I hope Capital Hill wins. The way they brand Trump supporters as Nazis makes me sick.

You do not seem to pay much attention to the facts.  I wonder why ... ?

A little too little, a little too late.

Up until the capitol nonsense, with Trump shite-stirring, he didn't cross the line.
Yes, I know. You will disagree when the line was/is. 8)

Trump had a political brain fart, and it has cost him, the doofus. 8)

If it were liberal progressives doing this, they’d be nutjob terrorists, too.

It’s all in the OCCASION and VENUE.

I agree that what SHOULD matter is occasion and venue. But I disagree that rioting the capitol Hill is worse than vandalism. I think it's the opposite. Vandalism causes permanent damage while a disruption of the event is temporary. I suspect Democrats know it too, and they pretend otherwise due to their political biases.

I think some people are missing something.
Both are bad.

Hitler murdered a lot of people.
Stalin murdered more.
Both are inexcusable. 8)

Yes, OP, there is indeed a level of hypocrisy here. I commented on it BEFORE the Capitol riots even happened (in a thread regarding protests in Oregon) and saw how most people on this site just don't get it. I don't like any sort of violent riots regardless of the politics behind them.

I'm the same.
It is incomprehensible.

Some people think it is acceptable if one side creates atrocities.
I find that incomprehensible.

Well what I don't understand is why do a lot of people who want to overthrow America, want to put the republican party in place? Wouldn't it just make more sense for Antifa to become it's own poltical party, and attempt to wipe out the other parties, rather than rely on the government to do obey their demands?

What does ANTIFA have to do with the right-wing insurrection on Wednesday? Those people wanted to keep Trump in power which isn't a goal that ANTIFA would ever support.

Oh sorry, the OP mentioned them so I thought they were the ones. I see now. But even so, what makes these trump supporters think this plan would work? Governments do not listen to fanatics.
