Anyone remember that episode in Hey Arnold when he and his friend Gerald try to do a Halloween prank on his family. They set up a fake radio announcement on the roof and do a fake breaking news report about aliens landing and they had the water tower decorated to make it look like a space ship and had it be lit up by one of their friends.

But instead the signal got picked up by a radio station and they fell for it and started broadcasting it and then other people heard and then the whole area was in panic. Then Helga and Phoebe and their classmates who happened to be aliens for Halloween were being chased by an angry mob. Arnold tries to tell everyone there were no aliens and it was all a hoax but no one listens. Only people who listened was his grandfather.

No one knew it was all a hoax until they busted the water tower.

My how I had no idea people were this stupid in real life. I thought this was only on TV but gee you have to wonder where the creators get these ideas.

That episode was actually referencing a real thing...

are you familiar with The War of the Worlds? It was a radio broadcast, meant as fictional sci fi about aliens attacking. Well people mistook it for a real news broadcast, I think some people even committed suicide over it thinking they'd have a worse fate if the aliens got them. This was back in the 30's. So yeah that hey arnold episode I think was referencing that, though the real life broadcast was not intended as a prank it was just meant to be entertainment.

That may have been exaggerated

Now they think trump will be inaugurated on March 4th. Wonder what’s going to happen to the Q bs game once that date comes and goes and trump is still not president again? Think qdupes will realize they were duped and slowly rejoin reality?

Hmm ... "March 4th" sounds suspiciously like an order to "March Forth" ... perhaps to conquer ... ?

Aw, snap!  Now I am starting to think like one of them!

Okay, back to reality...

Does anyone else remember this other so-called "Apocalypse Prophesy" by a another Right-winger?

Image

This End of the World event was pushed back to December 21, 2012. Do you remember THAT Apocalypse?  No?

Just like every other Apocalyptic cult, QAnon keeps pushing the date of Trump's "Second Coming" back every time their latest "Prophesy" fails to come true. Last date was January 6, 2021. The one before that was November 3, 2020. The next one is March 4, 2021.

Here is a little something to help you all prepare:

According to QAnon, Trump will become the 19th president on March 4 because of a theory, also believed by the so-called sovereign citizen movement, that a law was secretly passed in 1871 that turned the U.S. into a corporation. As a result of this, all other presidents after Ulysses S. Grant are illegitimate, the theory goes.

Law enforcement in Washington D.C. said they are monitoring the potential threat of further violence as followers of the QAnon conspiracy theory eagerly await March 4.

Supporters of the radical movement, listed as an domestic terrorist threat by the FBI, believe that Donald Trump will once again be inaugurated as president next month.

There is no suggestion that the QAnon supporters are planning anything in particular, but both Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department are keen not to have a repeat of the deadly January 6 attack, which conspiracy theorists took part in.

March 4 is the date that presidential inauguration ceremonies used to take place, before it was moved to January 20 in 1933 in order to shorten the lame-duck period.

QAnon is the latest incarnation of a grand conspiracy ideology that has been around for much longer. See my earlier thread QAnon, Blood Libel, and the Satanic Panic.

My biggest concern is that we may have another big wave of false accusations of child sexual abuse, thereby putting lots of innocent people in prison and tagging them as "sex offenders," while, at the same time, making it harder to convict real child sex abusers.

Another concern of mine is that we may have another big wave of slander against, and persecution of, various religious minorities including Pagans, the African Diaspora religions, occultists, and Satanists.

There's also likely to be an increasing wave of bigotry against Jews, and against the remaining Freemasons and similar groups.

A fairly good movie was made about it.

I remember my Junior High School(that was what middle school used to be called) there was this end of the world rumor that had girls crying in the hallways. This was about 1971 or so.

Oh, the rogue planet Nibiru WILL come to end all life on Earth. Eventually. Busy diary, lots of double-bookings. Turns out Nibiru had a prior engagement ending all life on Neptune that day. Nibiru is very sorry for any disappointment.

We have only 8 days until Mr. Trump rises from the 19th hole and is reinstated as the 19th President of America.

 And on March 5, we all will wake up and realize it was only a bad, bad dream.

Regarding tin foil hats: It's my impression this concept originated with the idea that people who hear voices might do that to make the voices go away. And that the voices are caused by the government beaming signals to their brain. So it's somewhat insensitive in that it suggests conspiracy theories originate with "nutjobs" who are in fact schizophrenic. Therefore arguably insensitive.

There are nutjobs, and there are schizophrenics -- the former simply believe in things that are not real, while the latter have something organically wrong with their brains.
