Idk at this point I feel like people who throw out being afraid of groomers are groomers themselves and homosexuals really have nothing to do with it, since it i mostly straight conservative white males who get caught engaging in that sort of thing.

I definitely dislike the current online usage of the term, mostly because it's basically the right doing their own version of an annoying left wing tactic, manipulating a loaded word to apply it to their enemies and hoping the previous associations of the word carry through. They're not professionals at it like the left are, so it comes off as particularly hackey and ham-fisted.

This is a right-wing tactic all the way! I've never seen a leftist do this, can you give some examples?
Racist
Old Meaning - A person who is prejudiced toward a race, thinks members of a race are inferior or discriminates against members of a race.
Weaponized meaning - If your race is the majority you are automatically racist due to power dynamics.
Privilege is similar going from describing a person to describing a group based on power dynamics.
An accusation of racism or privilege puts people on the defensive. If you make it about the group you put more people on the defensive.
Nazi or Fascist used to be mostly a liberal accusation against conservative politicians. The right uses those as much if not more these days.

People who get into politics too much and become keyboard warriors, are pitiful, especially those who don't get paid for what they are 'doing' online.
What a waste of time & energy.

Maybe it's a special interest for some people or maybe they want to get involved in activism concerning human rights. There's nothing wrong with either of those things. Some people think playing video games is a waste of time and energy. I think that most things people are interested in and enjoy are worthwhile on some level.

That's the thing though, keyboard warriors don't seem like they are enjoying themselves.
They often come across as bitter, and loathing and as if they are at odds with the world.
Whilst it is true that video games can be considered a waste of time, most people (gamers) have a relaxed or happy attitude towards them, in my view.

Maybe.

LOL, ASPOM beat me to the most obvious example, and that's just the tip of the iceberg, word games are the left's specialty, and you'd have to be willfully blind not to notice. "White supremacist" is another obvious one on the same theme, you don't even need to be white to be one anymore. Just within my own area of professional expertise, firearms, we have "ghost gun" for a build it yourself firearm kit, "assault weapon" for anything modern looking, "shoot first law" for laws allowing self defense without a duty to retreat in public, and that's just off the top of my head.
You have entire fields that do pretty much nothing but this, all of the various "post modern" studies in fact.

So I'm kind of a language nerd, and this post is basically like a three-course meal for me. Alhamdulillah, I'm going to savor this to the last bite.

This is a revisionist take if I ever saw one. So.... First thing I gotta say is that your "old meaning" and "weaponized meaning" are completely backwards. The word racisme, which is originally a French word, first appeared in print in the 1930's and, in its original context, refers to an ideology of Germanic/Nordic supremacy that was popular among contemporary Germans. Racism means Germanic supremacy in the same way that Zionism means Jewish supremacy. They're specific ideologies. In English usage, the word "racism" rarely appears in print and isn't found in any dictionaries until the 1960's which is when black civil rights activists and other leftists start (correctly) using the term to describe the grievances suffered under the privileged (yes, privileged) white majority. Pearls are clutched, monocles fall into wine glasses, and white neoliberal academics decide that the word "racism" needs to be defanged. So racism gets added to dictionaries, but with a fake definition. Now it's a meaningless buzz word. It becomes the cudgel white people bop black people with when they get too uppity. Your definition is the weaponized one, the commies are using it correctly.
Not much to unpack here. Everyone knows what privilege is. I hear people on the right and the left using this word and they both seem to agree on the definition. Right-wingers always want to disagree with me on whether or not white privilege (and straight privilege etc.) exists, but there's no confusion over what the term actually means.
So like, Nazis and/or Fascists are two different things, are you sure you're not the one who's been using these terms incorrectly? I don't have to actually explain what a fascist is, do I? Ha ha, of course I do. Well, fascism, as defined by Mussolini, is nothing more or less than the merging of state and corporate power. He offers "corporatism" as a synonym, and anecdotally I've noticed that right-wing guys never seem to mind being called corporatists, but shriek defiance at any utterance of the dreaded "f" word... Even though they're synonyms
P.S., This has nothing to do with the rest of my post, but Face_of_Boo have you ever heard of British electronic musician Bryn Jones a.k.a. "Muslimgauze"? His music slaps hard

Ghost gun? Assault weapon? I don't watch liberal news-media and those terms don't really mean anything to me. Those slick silver-tongued anchorboys get paid to mislead and confuse the American public; anti-gun types will probably be very upset to learn that every time their favorite professional gaslighter says the words "gun control" in front of a row of mics, gun guys run out and panic-buy all the ammo they can get their hands on, and gun company stocks actually go up. It's all a grift. The rich get richer, don't for a second think they actually care about your principles
These are not ASPartOfMe's definitions but maybe I'm being too literal.

This thread is not about dictionary definitions but colloquial meanings, specifically about altering/expanding definitions to weaponize them in the context of American politics.
Privilege:
Earlier Meaning - Unearned advantage gained by individuals based on who they know, wealth of the family they grew up in etc.
Newer meaning - Automatic advantages gained by being born into a group that is the majority and has the power. For example a white individual may be poor, unemployed, homeless etc but is still assumed to have “white privilege”.
Centering this thread back to its original topic “Groomer” when applied to humans meant via manipulations an individual preparing a child for sexual abuse. In America people who believe that people who are identify as transgender are mentally ill, or people who believe transgender is a real thing but children are too young to be taught about it are using “groomer” to describe anybody who favors teaching the concept of transgender, teaching transgender as a human variation, teachers calling their students by their preferred pronouns, doctors who proscribe hormones for children etc. Like the other terms we have been discussing the term “grooming” has been expanded for weaponization. Grooming in the dictionary definition is considered one of the most evil behaviors. While accepting preferred pronouns is not literally preparing a child to be sexually abused conflating people who engage in acceptance of transgender with people who prepare children to be sexually abused by calling them groomers has been quite an effective political tactic. Unlike “cancel culture” which gets people ostracized, fired, and sometimes harassed in their homes and physically attacked this conflation has resulted hundreds of laws bring passed.
I have not even gotten into using terms such as “mutilation” to describe sexual reassignment surgery.
From what I see here from members who have been manipulated for sexual purposes the consensus is that expanding the definition of grooming to include manipulating adults is the right thing to do. While they consider the conflation of grooming with transgender acceptance disgusting they still prefer to describe what happened to them as being groomed.
People generally agree with what was said in the last paragraph. While I personally do not see the purpose of continuing this thread because of consensus on the original topic and the broader context I am not am not going to put in a request to lock it. By unwritten WP rules that is primarily an OP’s right. In this case I think the members who have groomed should have primary say.
