They're not sending their best.

When other countries tell the U.S. to fix its own problems, to justify not letting Americans in, it's considered acceptable.

Yet when the U.S. tells other countries the same thing, it's xenophobic.

Meanwhile, we're trying to fix our own problems, but a certain political party and supporters of a certain former president obstruct progress at every turn.

Liberals/progressives can never convince red-state voters that Trump is bad for America. The right will not listen. All they know about the Democrats is that "they gonna take muh guns", and "persucute God-fearing red-blooden 'Muricans". Additionally, many red states are (a) so overwhelmingly conservative--states such as Wyoming, Kansas, and Alabama--that a Democrat stands no chance in such states, or (b) the purpler red states--Texas, Florida, Georgia, et al--have implemented a sophisticated, impenetrable system of voter suppression that ensures one-party GOP rule even as those states get more culturally diverse.

So there's no solution.

Ugh, I am more scared of Donnie boy's devotees.

I am a queer woman in a red state. Should I be cautious about walking/existing in public with my partner if he gets reelected? I am so nervous about the idea that all these lifted-truck-driving MOFOs are going to think they are invincible, and start bullying/endangering people who are different from them if he is back in office. ʕ´• ᴥ•̥`ʔ

Even comparing the Trump-era GOP and the Reagan/Bush-era GOP is apples and oranges.

I'm scared of people who are scared of Trump. I'm annoyed by people who don't have common sense and and are to stupid to realize they are stupid.

I'm just amused by him. The former Clown-in-Chief. If I was American I'd be mad at him for tarnishing my countries reputation.

I've decided whoever wins isn't really going to change my life. I don't like Trump to be sure, but MAGA fanatics are such idiots and tools. Not to mention the religious nut cases, gun nuts, and others that blindly follow.

The religious nut cases are very well-organized and want total dominion over every aspect of society and our lives.

Just look at Project 2025.

It’s not wise to write these people off as harmless nut cases, they know what they’re doing. This has been in the works for decades.

Can you convince your town to defund or abolish the police? People can't go to jail if there's nobody to enforce the laws.

You know I was only quoting Trump as a joke, not as a literal observation about Americans who might wish to escape America under a Trump-tatorship.

It's not wrong for the US to tell other citizens of other countries that it's preferable to fix their own problems too. That doesn't mean it's always a realistic option but the US isn't currently on par with those other places even if the US certainly has faults.

You regularly offer up 'let's make the US a lefty dictatorship', which would just result in the Trumpkins flooding Canada and well as make America the sort of dictatorship you pretend to be opposed to, just more ideologically agreeable to your social views.

Yes, I agree a realistic solution to America's current situation will be difficult, but how does your rhetoric about either wanting your country invaded (despite the nations you propose doing so not being capable of doing so) or to create a dictatorship that violates the rights of those you disagree with, or just running away—how does that help anything?

Like, you literally propose persecuting your opponents and then you complain they're unwilling to compromise because they fear their opponents will persecute them? You can't have it both ways. Stop f*****g saying the former if you want to complain about the latter.

If you want to be a moderate who supports democracy, be it. If you want to sound like a tankie, sound like a tankie, but don't sound like a tankie sometimes then complain that your opponents aren't moderate enough and are afraid that people like you want to use the state to persecute them for what they believe.

That's how you end up with MAGA types behaving like vigilantes with no one to hold them accountable anymore. :skull:

Exactly, that is the mistake I made I never thought Roe vs Wade would get over-turned I felt like ' Ha, let the anti-choicers scream about it, they can't actually force people to stay pregnant.' And now look at Texas and many other states.
The religious right is dangerous, and people really shouldn't laugh it off. People ought to take a look at current Afghanistan and Iran...project 2025 will make the U.S like that except in the name of Jesus instead of Allah.

That said if Trump wins I am not so sure the blue states are going to comply with project 2025, also not sure what they could do to fight against it though.

Texas would definitely comply with Project 2025. Abbott is as bad as Trump, maybe even worse. He prioritized banning dick pics over modernizing the power grid. Many porn sites have been blocked here. Weed? Forget it. Public nudity? Nope.

Unless...
