Gosh, yes, they're rolling in their graves. Look at all those Irish all over the place!

Oh, wait, different century, different group of people to hate.

I live in North Dallas, where I was born and raised. Right off of Preston Rd.

It's possible to get more central I suppose, but not very.

Aren't they already slowly doing that? Texas and California?

If you're talking about immigration since our Four Fathers, that's been going on for quite a while now.

The US annexing Mexico would be a sure-fire way of wrecking both countries (incidentally, the Mexican government is more fiscally responsible than Washington, and the Mexican peso has lately been more stable than the US dollar). It could not be done peacefully (and as in Iraq, it wouldn't be defeating the regular army that would be the problem), and direct US military intervention in Mexico in the 20th century was a complete fiasco (Punitive Expedition, Veracruz occupation). Importantly, since the US elite knows squat about Mexico (just because you see many Mexicans around doesn't mean you actually know something about Mexico) it wouldn't exactly govern Mexico well.

It also runs contrary to present trends - Spain's cultural, political and economic influence in Mexico is rapidly rising, as is trade with China. In any case, it won't happen because neither the American nor the Mexican elites stand to gain from it.

Advantages:

1. It would solve the illegal immigration problem once and for all.
2. It would automatically make all Mexicans United States citizens -- both those who risk their lives
to get here and those who can only dream of being here.
3. Once it's governed by our laws, Mexico's economy would skyrocket from its present sorry state
to equal that of the leader of the free world.
4. Many other countries wish America would make them this same deal, but Mexico is lucky enough
to be already contigious with our mainland, and therefore adding them as a state would be relatively easy
and natural. (Makes more sense than our courting Puerto Rico.)

Disadvantages:

1. Culture shock.
2. Whites would be made an extreme minority, but blunting that disadvantage would be
the fact that there would be much more intermariage between hispanics and whites, which would
effectively create a new racial breed and status.
Thoughts?

A few details are amiss here.

Both advantages 1 & 2 are true however, many Mexicans take pride in their Country, and are fairly patriotic. Secondly, A lot of Mexicans are leery of the fact that they have such a powerful neighbor to the north, and haven't forgetten the fact that the US has invaded their country.

3. Mexico's economy and standards of living are quite a bit better off than a lot of Central American countries to the south. Mexico's standards of living and infrastructure development may be behind that of the US and Canada, however the reasons for this stem from decades of mismanagement and governmental corruption. The PRI ruled Mexico for deacades with disastrous results.

As far as Disadvantages are concerned:

Culture shock really isn't an issue with Mexican people. I'm from New England where a lot of people, (including myself) have a Latin/Catholic cultural background. There really isn't a great deal of differance culturally speaking. OTOH, The Language barrier is an obstacle.

Secondly, considering Hispanic people to be a separate race is misleading, as not only are many hispanic people white, they also consider themselves as being white as well. Also, Hispanic people can also be African, Native American, Asian, or a mixture of any race.

Should the US annex Mexico? --Only if the majority of people in both countries agree upon this, however I don't see that this happening any time soon.

Truth.

These two are white in their country. They'd be called black or Latino in the US.

"Hispanics" may not be a race per se, but even ignoring the normal qualifications that race is a social construct anyway, they do present a distinct demographic from so-called whites and it is generally expedient to distinguish the two.

Anyway, the substantial majority of Mexico is mestizo mix of native and European, and I believe in general the mean Mexican ancestry will be quite a bit more native than European, so calling Mexicans a different race is as accurate as most race claims.

Some might call them Indians

I think Americans (especially whites) are so traumatized after being demonized for so long over what their ancestors did to the American Indian, that they are willing (in the name of political correctness) to roll out the red carpet, empty their wallets, and usher in the destruction of their culture on behalf of an unappreciative unassimilating uncivilized tribe, even if its the wrong one. The really messed up part is that nobody in the history of the American southwest hated Mexicans more than Native Americans.
