Yes, I think people are too attached to scripture (which is to say, words some sheep herder wrote a long time ago, far away). To apply these literally is sad, regardless of the religion.

If you believe in not aborting why do you have to apply these rules to everyone else, I mean God isn't going to judge you for what everyone else does.

i can not keep up with all your comments, so i will talk in isolation (as i always do) with only snippets of reference to other posts in this thread.

i think that to say a rapists unborn child has a more "just" reason to be terminated than a natural one is blaming the child for it's inception.

it is not possible to determine if the fetus is "conscious" (or not).

to make the decision to kill it without that information is quite ignorant in my opinion.

it is a hasty and selfish decision.

there may be people who complain about their particular bad luck to be raped, but
bad luck is all around the place, and they think they have the right to cast aside their "bad luck", and shirk the fact that bad luck happened to them, and kill what they do not really understand in order to be free of the shackles of their predicament.

i will kill mosquitoes because they bother me and they suck my blood, and it is natural for me to eliminate the mosquitoes in my vicinity as a biological urge.

but every time i kill one, i realize that no amount of supreme intelligence can ever recreate that mosquito i just destroyed.
---
also there is that amazing race of sperm cells to the egg.
there are billions of them and they all swim as hard as they can to get to the goal.

only the very fittest (a winner among billions of competitors) makes it to the egg first and fertilizes it.

it is almost miraculous that anyone is the way they are.
if a different sperm cell among those billions had have won the race, then a different person would have been conceived.

all people are miraculously valuable, and to stop any of them entering the world is a very serious act in my mind

Well, I can say that it is easier for a man to say that, isn't it? From a female point of view, I don't know, but those who were raped or were closed to, it would be fair to hear what they would have to say, wether pro-life or pro-choice, someone who either was raped or someone they know were.

eer, everytime you kill one, millions are born, mosquitos and other insects would be the last species to think of becoming extinct by killing a few.

There's no way in hell I'd shackle a woman to the responsibility of carrying around a bastard rapists spawn for 9 months. No way I'd imprison her to that sh*t or pull guilt on her while she's already suffering.

It's not all that miraculous when conception happens billions of times a year, millions of times a day. Cockroaches pop other little cockroaches out by the hundreds every week, that only inflames me to kill the little f*ckers off faster. Miracle my butt, it's a curse.

Clearly, none of you saying a rape victim should carry a child have ever watched someone close to you suffer the trauma and try to rebuild their lives after the event. Ignorance is bliss, huh guys?

There's no way I could carry a child inside me for nine months then give it away.

You've heard of adoption, have you? And what about all those desperate couples who try but are unable to conceive? Instead of destroying the child, give it to them, yeah? It's for this reason and others that we need governments who care about social programs and make them a priority.
Not a veggie, btw.

1)I would perform a home abortion without anesthesia before I allowed a rapist to reproduce using my body, or allowed my genes to exist in a person with those of a rapist.

2)If there are so many families out there desperate for children, then why do we have a foster care system? Why are there tens of thousands of children languishing in foster care? Many entered the system when they were infants. Why don't those desperate families adopt foster children, instead of coercing young women to go through pregnancies that they don't want?

This might be a good time to raise the issue of race, slowmutant.

What, you think it's ok for a family to ignore a thousand black children in need, and force an unwilling woman to have a baby she doesn't want, just so that they can have a white child?

Exactly, a woman should have that right when that happens, nobody should be legally allowed to prevent that, trying to persuade her, yes, but not to take away her right to make a choice.

I believe some people that are anti-abortion might be just like that, I can't help to see some irony in this case.

Not sure he thinks that, he did suggest that a woman would be more likely to abort if the rapist was black ... not something that would be a consideration to most women, I think.

Men should have the right to demand sex from their wives if women have the right to abort. Then it would be more balanced.

Men have certain rights as well, girls.

Oh yes of course, white children are prettier! That's what your normal white christian conservative american who is against abortion thinks anyhow.

Demand sex? So you're saying if a man's wife gets the right to abort, the husband should have the right to have sex with her whether she wants to or not? That's not balanced at all. You're forgetting men don't have to go through pregnancy, it's already unbalanced. That's like saying if you get $75, and someone else gets $50, you both giving up $25 is balancing it.

You know, I found that funny.

To make it really balanced, you would have to take in mind that women get pregnant and have a future child forming inside them for 9 months and men don't.

Yes, all humans have rights.

men have the right to masturbate whenever they want, and can keep their sperm alive in a goldfish tank if that's what they want. Like everyone else, however, their rights end where another person's rights begin. Women have the right to determine what to do with their own bodies; suggesting that marital rape should be legal is a continuation of the idea that women should not be able to determine their own pregnancy, not the inverse of it.
