People are not programmed to behave a certain way. We have the ability to choose our paths.
What is choice? And how does it make sense when people's success in life correlates strongly with other conditions, e.g. having a family, being brought up with X values, opportunities - there are any number of things that people do not earn that make them more (and less) likely to succeed. The idea that you can ignore the chance circumstances which affect someone's success in life is comically ridiculous.
Free will is bunk and it's a terrible justification for anything, politically. People are robots.
