I wasn’t upset about losing Paradise when I quit believing because it never seemed real to me or particularly nice. Initially, there’d be a lot of book burning going on, and I think eternity would get awfully boring after a while.

Yes - it's a strangely specific inclusion.

Very occasionally JW promo is dropped through the letterbox and it always has soppy, sentimental pictures like that.
They're just daft and not remotely convincing of anything except maybe the mentality of the group using them.

There tends to be more interesting illustrations in their stuff for believers. These were in a book that was popular when I was a kid and was studied at JW churches several times although it’s no longer canon. The book is an exhaustive interpretation of the book of Revelation. It’s no longer canon because a lot of stuff in it is no longer applicable - like about named countries and world powers, such as the Soviet Union. I should reread it one of these days, so I can get more specifics.

Video game violence is bad. Reading about or seeing depictions of violence in the Bible is good.

For 5-7 year olds especially:






The picture of Jesus used to be worse. They cropped it.

It's funny, as a little kid the violence was the main appeal.

In the Bible or video games?

Violence in the Bible deeply disturbed me because I thought it was real. It probably wouldn’t have bothered me as much if I hadn’t thought that the Bible was divinely inspired and that God was condoning and encouraging violence.

Biblical violence was very real, in biblical times, even if the specific depictions of violence in the bible were fictional.

So it might as well have been real - a literary reflection of the times.
