Gerson Fuentes, 27, whose last known address was an apartment in Columbus, was arrested Tuesday after police said he confessed to raping the child on at least two occasions. He's charged with rape – a felony of the first degree in Ohio – and is held in the Franklin County jail on a $2 million bond.

The child's mother reported the girl's pregnancy to Franklin County Children Services on June 22, which informed Columbus police, Detective Jeffrey Huhn said Wednesday at Fuentes' arraignment. The girl underwent a medical abortion in Indianapolis on June 30, Huhn said.

The girl told police Fuentes was responsible for her pregnancy, Huhn testified. Assistant Franklin County Prosecutor Daniel Meyer said she had recently turned 10, meaning she was probably impregnated at 9 years old.

Huhn testified that DNA from the clinic in Indianapolis is being tested against samples from Fuentes. Before being arrested, Huhn and Columbus police Detective David Phillips collected a saliva sample from Fuentes, according to a probable cause statement.

There have been many instances of people under 10 having their periods. I’ve known sixth-graders who look like full-grown women. I would say, in sixth grade, that half the girls in my class were already fairly "developed."

Just like there are sixth grade boys who are already over 6 feet tall. None were in my class. You see them when you watch the Little League World Series.

It is astounding how young some girls can be when they are able to get pregnant. And also apparently if girls have regular sex, their bodies mature quicker. Not sure if that's an old wives' tale but it could be true. If this poor girl was being raped regularly, her body probably adapted.

The man's behaviour is depraved and disgusting. :evil:

I don’t believe pregnancy can even be detected at 6 weeks’ gestation.

In some countries in the middle east and India, the average age rural girls get married off is 12-17
In Ethiopia the median age for marriage is 16.

Girls who get pregnant at this age suffer horrible medical conditions for much of their life afterward

It's a deeper and more troubling question than you might know. Girls have been going through puberty earlier and earlier in recent decades, but no one is quite sure what is causing it. It could be an environmental pollutant (perhaps the same thing that is lowering male sperm counts) but it has also been tenuously linked to modern family structures - https://bmcpediatr.biomedcentral.com/ar ... 20-02345-w girls who live in single parent homes are more likely to go through early puberty - for some odd reason - these researchers link it to stress.

Yes. That was the decision of some states. That's why most women are terrified. Except the women who support this for some reason, i.e. the Republican ones :(

I can't understand it. What normal mature man wants to have sex with a girl as young as that? Or are the men the same age as the girls? Is it some kind of status thing? I read that the men compete and bully each other over who can get a young virginal wife.

And also, girls marrying very young is legal in many American states! :?

Yes. Many people think pregnancy, periods etc. are straightforward, cut and dried. 'Women have periods every 28 days. A pregnancy lasts 9 months.' etc. This is definitely not the case for most women. Fertility is very unpredictable and unreliable, and definitely doesn't abide by an artificial human calendar. It is a rollercoaster to be a woman.

California is experiencing an increase in visitors seeking legal abortions from other states.  These women need to pay for food, transportation, and housing while they are here (in addition to medical fees, of course).  These services are taxed by the state.

Those who cannot afford the trip must make do with more clandestine services where they live on a cash-only basis, which means that the income for performing such services is not always taxed.

California is profiting from the defeat of Roe v Wade, while more conservative states are missing out.

The key words are "normal" and "mature".  It must take a really abnormal perv to impregnate an 8-year old child, or an 11-year old boy who thinks he is just having some fun by doing something "naughty".
