Why are Jews suddenly being targeted now?

The grass-roots spread of anti-Zionism has inspired certain elements of society to conclude that killing Jews is the right thing to do. The attacker was of Syrian descent. I have nothing against Syrians but if his parents grew up in Syria, they were probably taught to hate Israel their whole lives and I don't think it unreasonable that they may have also been encouraged to despise Jews in general although most people will claim that's a specious conclusion, so feel free to decide for yourself. But anyway, the current anti-Zionist atmosphere certainly encouraged him to act on any animosity he already felt towards Jews, now that he probably expected his deed to be seen as a selfless act of bravery in support of all victims of Jewish perfidy world-wide.
The growth of anti-Zionism does create a real danger, though not the inevitability, of a growth in general hatred of Jews. In my opinion it is important to counteract this danger, not by endorsing Zionism, but by (1)
debunking anti-Jewish myths, (2) calling attention to the existence of
anti-Zionist Jews and other Jewish critics of Israel, and (3) educating people about the history of
Christian Zionism, without which Jewish Zionism and the state of Israel likely would never have gotten off the ground, much less gotten massive support from the U.S.A. for so many years.
