Gay marriages and civil partnerships in church

I dunno, gay tv, where's straight tv? Gay bars, where's the straight bars? All of them I guess, but you couldn't call them straight bars. And Like I said, people can be sued for being homophobic, but not heterophobic.
Anyway, gay people have it pretty good here. I know a lot of the US is way behind us. A lot of people who are against homosexuals, seem to have the view, "just keep your perversions behind closed doors".
Unless otherwise specified, everything is straight. That hardly qualifies as 'extra' rights.

So when child molester's start wanting to marry their underaged prey, they should be able to, cause its their right? I'm not comparing gay people and pedo's as one in the same obviously. When a certain group can alter a religion to suit them, thats extra rights. Too bad for you if you can't see that. You have to remember the USA isn't the only country in the world. I'm not the same kind of white person that you're thinking of.
As far as I know, if the victim were to grow up and choose to marry her abuser, many, if not most churches would be prepared to marry them.
They are, as long as they are at least first cousins. Any closer, and the law prohibits it.

I wouldn't say we've got it all that good at all. I've remained in the closet to avoid the trouble and harrasment that comes with being openly gay. I know a few gay people in the town that I live in, and they can't walk down the street without being verbally abused. They have regularly had their property vandalized. And on top of that gay marriage is still not allowed, and AFAIK in the case of gays who have maried abroad, still not legally recognized.

Wasn't so long ago I had to turf some idiot out of a bar for abusing a gay customer, who was simply enjoying a quiet drink with friends (both gay and straight.)

I once had a gay friend intervene on my behalf and keep me from getting turfed just for unwittingly walking into a gay bar where he just happened to be!

Back when I worked in a pub I saw this happen a few times. Some macho hits the Jack Daniels a little too hard and thinks he's real tough by attacking the queers minding their own business. Frankly I don't blame them for wanting their own bars where they don't have to deal with violent heterosexuals males with a chip on their shoulder, probably from deeply repressed wang hunger

Hey guy, what the hell do you think Spike TV is? Or all of the straight porn channels? Or the 'hetero' night life clubs that cater to unsmiling hot women and popped collar knucklehead bros but won't let you in if you don't look like 'the type'?

I have the misfortune to live in one of the most backward and religious places in Britain. I was playing football with a bunch of teenage boys, and was pretty freaked out when they started talking about how they would be happy to beat up a "fa***t" for no reason other than the fact they were gay. A few of these boys were religious, and one of the main reasons they gave for their homophobia was that they claimed "God says that it's wrong."
I'm not saying that the church is solely responsible for homophobia, but the attitude of the churches certainly does nothing to help the situation, and I'm pretty certain that the churches attitude to homosexuality does significantly increase homophobia.

It is full of straight porn channels yes. Does it say straight porn tv?
Well sorry you're put in that situation, i'm not saying the country has no homophobes left in it, but as far as the media goes, you can't say a bad word against gay people. How did people know that couple were gay, or did they just assume cause they were living together? Being against homosexuals is fair enough I guess, but when they start bullying them and vandalizing their property, they need to be dealt with by the police. But for criminal damage and verbal abuse, they shouldn't be punished more severely cause the incidents were aimed at gay people.

We get plenty of stuff like that in the UK, Muslims wanting people who don't follow Islam to be burned, as well as our soldiers and police too. White people killed for just being white, and vice versa. The bible won't get re-written just to stop homophobia. I'm sure there's plenty of things gay people do that doesn;t help homophobia. The teenagers who say they'll beat someone up for just being a faggort are showing off, they're little moron. If they were in a one on one situation with a person who was gay, they would do sod all, they were saying that crap to impress their other friends, and if they were in a group, then they most likely would beat up that gay person.

I don't think that the media in this country is homophobic.

The gay people that I was talking about are openly gay. They make no secret of their sexuality.

My absolute favourite was when someone tipped a pint over the head of the 6ft 3inch plus transexual, who then turned round and used his steam-shovel hands to bounce the guy off the end of the bar. Never seen a more deserving blow struck. Took three of us to drag her off him in the end. Not that we tried all that hard.

Why? Why mention Muslims when they have nothing to do with it? Is there any subject where you won't drag Muslims in to it and rattle on about how evil they are? What purpose does it serve?

@murphycop: Like I had mentioned over in the other thread, there are still plenty of convicts getting the justice many people think they deserve.

They'll do that to anybody, not just gays.
Well I guess a lot of people still don't like it shoved in their faces. I can't really blame them for that, its no excuse to do what they did though.
