democracy has a life cycle that ends in dictatorship and we are at the end of democracy in the US
take the patrot act put in by Bush and Cheney...it practically is very vaugue as to who is a terrorist and any american can be trageted as a terrorist even if they are just a civil rights advocate bucking the system.
Then Obama further funded the domestic spy/stalking program within homeland security with the economic stimulus package
Obama just signed a bill that further extends the reach of the patriot act's destruction of civil liberties
Bush started a war on a lie for oil rights
Obama furthered the war and started 2 more
Bush gave the rich tax breaks
Obama continued them

yet Obama is painted like a terrible libral who is against everything that republicans are for.

if you plug your ears to their dog fighting, you will see they are on the same page with the same agenda.

so as far as my affilation?
I vote for who ever is the lesser evil regardless of affilation.

Exactly! The American system is, when looked at in terms of the rest of the world's political spectrum, a choice between far right and centre right. Or, if you come from the context of Scandinavia, a choice of far right and a different far right.

I agree that America is in decline. You have two parties which are going to prove incapable of dealing with the changing world and a system that will not allow anyone else to come in to offer a solution. It is difficult in Canada, but a party like the Greens is able to slowly make headway and offer different options. Unless one of the American parties radically changes its policies than the USA is going to be, at best, reduced to the status of middle power, just like the UK before them.

Not a whole lot of hope when presidential elections [it is not so much so at the local level] are simply a larger and more popular version of the Miss America pageant.

I think that multi-international corperations have come together to rid the world of democracies...it may seem like an extreem statement but if you look at all the counties being gobbled up by multi-international corperations...they are (were) democracies.

Quite possible. It sounds like something out of Kim Stanley Robinson's books. Maybe global warming will make socialist parties more popular (as in proper socialist parties, not things like the British Labour party which isn't really socialist at all) and they can change things some. Unless it turns out like the Soviet Union again...

I am a Democrat.

The Republican Party is mainly for rich people who don't pay their taxes/cheat on their taxes
and for those who like being brainwashed by people who speak dumbass.

If I had to choose a third party, I would opt for being an Independent.
