you prove my point.

Only of America is that true, where one can be not from America, and still be American, as it is an idea that forms identity. It is not true of being a frenchman. A frenchman is one because he is born in france, to french parents, who speak the french language, and embraces french culture.

There are a lot "real" Americans who are not citizens, nor reside on the North American continent. I work with many illegals who are culturally American in every sense except for citizenship, and bless them, but I think It is fair to require that our presidents come from the people who were born on American territory.

is that from a right-wing news organization? I know its hosted on dk, but uploaded from what original source?

Obama didn't write the stimulus bill. Lobbyists wrote the bulk of it and congress patched it together. Therefore the cartoon can't be a racist jab at Obama. The cartoon is implying that the stimulus bill was authored by a literal monkey. There is no racist boogieman behind this cartoon.

Personally, I think the cartoon is insulting to monkeys.

No, I agree: it can't be, but that is still the intent. Ms. Sherrod (who was fired unfairly) citied racism on behalf of those who oppose the health care bill. Racism is the assumed intention whenever conservatives oppose the administration. It is a turn-off to most people though, including independents.

The racist New York Post, a favorite source of some of the biggest idiots on this forum.

So that's at least three right wingers here who still think the birth certificate is an open question. Amazing.

And condolences.

Okay, maybe there are some people who can be birthers without being racists. But the fact that is inescapable is that this birther BS was started and promoted by racists. So if those birthers who don't think of themselves as racists should remember that guilt by association is alive and well, they should maybe reconsider their ties to such people in order to avoid being painted by the same brush.

Before calling me stupid and calling my comments racist, you should research who actually wrote most of the stimulus bill. It wasn't Obama.

This is written without sarcasm
Lay off John. He (unlike some folks) is honest enough to admit that he has
some racist tendencies. Although I find racism abhorrent I find Browning
copping to it refreshing and the fact that he does puts him on my list
of honest folk. I still disagree with him on nearly every issue but I think that he is
at least forthright in his opinions.

Probably regionalist is the word for distrusting politicians from a certain place more than those of other places.

Get real though. Nobody ever went this nuts in an effort to try to pretend a president was not a citizen before. Only two possible reasons to keep pushing this topic would be being racist or stupid.

Chicago's corruption is known to make the people in Washington DC look like saints. We have the undead voting yet there is no reports of brains being eaten, we have pay to play schemes, we have a mayor that was not a resident, Chicago = corruption.

Thank the gods, that Rom Emanuel is not our Dictator. He is more bad a** than Lord Obama, the evil spawn of Old Mayor Daley and Saul Alinsky.

Whether Obama actually wrote the stimulus bill or not is immaterial; he's still associated with writing it. And so the cartoon is in fact racist, as it's playing up on the ugly stereotype of making black men out to be apes. Apologists for the cartoon can rationalize "what was really meant" by the dead ape, but the fact of the matter was, it was a sick attempt at humor by implying that the police weren't able to distinguish between the dead animal and the President.

It's obvious that people disagree about the chimp cartoon, the only one who really knows if there was racist intent behind it is the cartoonist. If he says there wasn't the same people who think the cartoon is racist wouldn't believe him anyway.

I'll say the cartoon is definitely racially insensitive, but I have no way of knowing for certain if it racially motivated. It seems plausible to me that the recent chimp mauling story and the stimulus signing were combined into a cartoon without thinking about people's perceptions. A child that was never exposed to racism of any kind couldn't point to anything racist in the cartoon, so it's not racist on it's face, you do have to infer things.

I'm more astounded by the apparent Charles Xavier like ability of people on here to tell what someone else is thinking.

You don't need to read minds to tell somebody is ignorant. Maybe you would to discern accurately that their ignorance was willful. But there are cases where you would hope that, for a person's own sake, they were willful in their ignorance.

Yeah, and the guy who brought the chimp doll to the McCain rally just loved dolls. Innocent!
