American Muslims stone Christians in MI
First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the socialists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the short skirts,
and GTF AWAY FROM SEXY WOMEN'S CLOTHING YOU MONSTER!

I believe Voltaire (Actually, Evelyn Beatrice Hall) made some statement relevant to this particular situation...
Yes, but there are ramifications to speech, if that speech is meant to incite. You have to use common sense in regard to the use of inflammatory words, to avoid situations that might erupt into violence.
Case in point - I was told how there had been a so called campus missionary at my old school of Eastern Washington University, who upon seeing the short skirt worn by a female student while walking between classes with her boyfriend, called her a whore. Her boyfriend knocked him on his ass. Now, that damn fool would not have gotten punched had he only kept his trap shut. And as he had been assaulted due to his inflammatory words, I have my doubts if the campus police would have done much to arrest the boyfriend.
So a person chooses to articulate a derogatory statement against another person. And so what?
My point being, there are consequences to speech meant to incite anger.

True. At least 45 people died as a result of the 2005 cartoon crisis.
But I'm pretty sure the 70 year old cartoonist didn't kill them. He was just exercising his constitutional right to free speech.
Unsurprisingly, however, a lot of people blame him for those deaths, and not the ones who actually killed those people.
Oh, and there are also consequences for wearing short skirts (apparently, such garments incite anger in campus missionaries). Ban short skirts now.
There's a rather distinct difference between a man drawing a cartoon for comedy and what happened in that video.

There is absolutely no excuse for killing anyone. In such a case, the offended party has become the offenders. And I never said banning speech or clothing is the answer - just that people need to realize there are consequences for speech meant to incite.

The cartoonists did not draw Muhammad cartoons for comedy. This is a common misconception. They did it for free speech. The entire situation occurred because of the pressure on the Danish media to be less critical in its description of Islam. Someone took offence to that... (freedom of speech is literally a religious issue in Denmark).
So the difference might no be so distinct, after all.
In my opinion, cartoonists like Kurt Westergaard and Lars Vilks make most medal of honour recipients look like average joes... Except the ones who threw themselves on a grenade... Oh, and the guy who *catched* a grenade while charging and threw it back at the enemy... No sell.
Here is what I would said to those "extremely offended" by having their religious sensibilities mocked or made light of.
I would say to them: Suck it up or Get the Hell Out. A free society should make to concessions whatsoever to anyone's "sensitivity" or "dignity". Compared to being able to speak freely (even if hatefully) these other matters are of zero importance. Dignity and a dime will buy a ten cent cup of coffee which tells one immediately what dignity is worth.

I haven't read the thread, but OP - this is propaganda of the highest order. Christians, Muslims - they're both as bad as each other.
The video features a gang of RL Christian Trolls, trolling an obvious Muslim event. The reaction of the Muslims was equally moronic - but don't for a minute think those men with the "You're going to burn in a lake of fire" placards are worthy of sympathy.
It's like the Westboro Baptist Church and their "God hates fags" crap, picketing funerals. Why? It's not the place to be spewing religious BS and certainly not a medium to promote meaningful debate - the Muslims in the video evidently were just initially out to have a good time - most of them were children in what appears to be a fairground hosting a cultural festival.
Religion poisons everything.
.
When was the last time a gang of Christians hijacked a commercial flight and crashed the plane into a tall building.
ruveyn
This is relevant to the discussion how? Are you implying the Muslims in this film have also flew planes into buildings?
While we're at it, have you ever participated in a Crusade ? I wasn't going to bring it up as they happened in the 11th, 12th, 13th and 21st century and I didn't think it was fair to tar all Christians with the same brush but since you insisted...
Religion. Poisons. Everything.

There hasn't been a Christian religious crusade against the Holy Land for going on 800 years. But suicide bombs and explosions of i.e.d. s are virtually daily occurrences and are as recent as yesterday's news.
About one every five years some fundie nutter will bomb or burn down an abortion clinic. That is about as violent as American Christians get.

If you're going to treat Muslims as a homogenous group, then your forfeit the right to treat Christians individually. So if Christians went on a rampage 800 years ago, and Muslims are doing it now - I don't think either Christians or Muslims can take the moral high ground. Religious people will continue to do what they have always done, divide humanity.

I think it's relevant to bring up the fact that ruveyn is actually an atheist of Jewish background. He isn't defending Christianity because he's a Christian.

I believe (rather than know) that the G-D of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob exists. I think that G-D was an alien exploratory group that landed on Earth and got involved in the local politics for a while. Then the took off......
Leaving a mess behind.
What a show. Fireworks on top of Mt. Sinai and prior to that the opening of the Sea of Reeds with a big wind blow. These ETs had a sense of showmanship and style.

It is only a mess because they hired a public relations manager with poor motor skills.

Oh, on a more on-topic note:
No Jewish comedians were stoned in the making of that clip.
Now, let's try making fun of Islam and see what happens.
Oh, wait. Someone already did that.

Idiots. It wasn't even a Muslim event. It was an Arab event. Some of them were Christian.
