She's entitled to it if she meets the criteria for it (which I assume she does.) But that criteria is subject to change over time. I'm just saying, it's good to have a back up plan.

True. She is damaging the girl.

I don't understand this. Why do you believe it is better for the society in taking monies for the police at gunpoint from those who produced them?

You're changing the subject. I didn't ask what's "better for the society," that's another issue. I asked why you feel there is more "integrity" in accepting State rather than private voluntary assistance.

I'm just imagining that I fell into dire circumstances -- obviously it could happen to anyone -- and had to seek help. That my family and friends couldn't support me, and local churches and other private agencies turned me away, and I was forced to apply for government aid. I don't believe I'd be thinking, "Hoo boy, I've sure got me some hardcore integrity now, you betcha!"

Oh, she does. Multiple Sclerosis is generally considered to be very disabling.

My back-up plan is that I continue to financially support her until I drop.

Yeah, there will always be conditions where people need support. I hope they will always have it (and sorry about you Mom.)
But that doesn't mean that everyone receiving assistance is not capable of recovering or learning new skills. Working for me is more difficult than it is for neurotypicals, and I have relied on support but if I can work I will. I think some people give up trying to push themselves because they figure if they've been designated disabled then they will never make any progress at all. Which I don't think is necessarily true.

I remember when there was a sense of pride and solidarity when you used to stand in the post office queue, waiting to cash your giro. Signing on was nothing more than a nod and a wink.

These days you have to jump through hoops to get nothing more than a bag of peanuts and a dirty look.

I don't know what the world's coming to.

Regression, though worse. Not only are we returning to the 19th century, but we have propaganda that has been perfected and power concentrations unheard of to ensure that the 19th century stays forever...

Society functions almost as an organic unit. The weaker parts have to be compensated for, but they can only do so without harming the whole. With the economic situation the way it is, there is more of a burden on financial assistance, and less resources to use. It's bad times. That said, we can't let people be dying on the street.
The thing is there are a lot of people on disability and welfare for all kinds of reasons and there are not a lot of jobs available for these people because the world is not friendly to the disabled.
But I think we should consider ourselves lucky that society provides such assistance. There may come a time when it's no longer available at all.

Austerity kills the economy and increases the debt to GDP ratio, to this idea that we must do these terrible things is ludicrous. It is based on this torture-worshipping mania that states that anything that isn't horribly painful and punitive cannot possibly work. Conveniently, those proposing the pain are not those to be subject to it.

Not sure what you're getting at with the "torture-worshiping" idea. And I don't think there's anything punitive about what I said. It's not a matter of sadism, just practicality. The community can only carry so much burden and people don't have an entitlement to aid.

Never heard of "no pain, no gain?"

There is this very pervasive idea that if something doesn't hurt, isn't unpleasant, then it must be bad for people. There is virtue in suffering and vice in pleasure. If an economic policy was found to cause record economic growth and eliminate poverty but there's no pain in it, they'd say, "impossible!. Besides, there's no virtue here, only vice, so, SORRY! Only policies that hurt people are allowed". Thus, torture worship... pain and torture are themselves virtues.

So everyone can be equally strong in your communist society... It is possible to will yourself to that, the triumph of the will presumably. The idiocies I find here are astounding.

The social organism does not like the super-rich as "producers". Any support that exists at all is because of propaganda, an extremely pervasive propaganda. Most people do not believe that these "producers" are entitled to what it is they take.

Uh, where the f*ck does the original poster say they are "weak"? Also, from the OP

Typical of the left to resort to profanity. :shameonyou:
I've read this person's other posts on the topic of conscription and by that he seems to think that conscription was implemented just to persecute him.

Either the newspaper article was BS or someone else is. Really, do you automatically believe everything that supports you liberal agenda?

I have my weaknesses and my strengths.

More of the former than the latter, I’m guessing by your posts the last few days…

It's none of your business, really.

You sure like to talk incessantly about it in this forum as if it were the world’s business.

Communist? :lmao: That’s a first. I thought all you liberals think we conservatives are Nazis.

In some cases, yes.

If we don't like something, we discuss it and attempt to convince others of our perspective. If enough people agree, we vote our representatives into political positions where they can facilitate change.

It's beyond childish to believe that people who disagree with the system should leave the country. It's a hateful attitude that leaves no path for compromise.

I'm tired of people acting as if they have no choice in the matter of paying taxes. If you don't like paying taxes, either go somewhere you don't have to pay taxes, get a job "under the table," go live in the forest and eat nuts and berries, or vote for politicians whose taxation policies you agree with.

You're hardly without options, and it's beyond ridiculous to frame the issue that way.

I can understand the desire to have a childish outburst because you're tired of a particular argument.

Your options include:
1. leaving society
2. breaking the law
3. leaving society and breaking the law
4. what we're doing, with the addition of trying to convince others

How is it ridiculous to suggest that we don't have (viable) options when this is what you come up with?
