Seriously, it appears that a kind of "herd immunity" has been reached in many U.S. cities where there are enough firearm owners to protect against violent crime affecting all the residents including those who choose to remain unarmed. I respect those who choose to resist owning a firearm. After all it is their lives being affected (or not), so it should be their choice, right? Maybe even: #MyLifeMyChoice

To me, non-lethal alternatives are preferable when practical. Practical does not always happen and when I'm facing a determined armed assailant I'm not going to waste time and risk my life trying pepper spray first to see if it works.

Simple solution: Don't get one. I don't own a gun shop so I don't care one way or another if you get a gun.
Thinking it's necessary to have a gun to protect oneself from other gun owners in general is paranoid.
