https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/201 ... -black-menThis says that black men are killed at five times the rate of white men in 2015. Now were black men 5 times more likely to provoke a police shooting by their own actions? Or do we have a problem with racism in police departments? I personally see it as the latter.
Actually, statistics also show that a vast majority of homicides in the black community are committed by other black people. This number is also much, much higher than the number of black people killed by police in justified and unjustified cases. Also, black people committed more murders and robberies than white people in 2013, despite them being only 13% of the population. So it makes sense that more of them would be in a situation where a cop might shoot them.
Before I get pounced on, I want to say that this can be largely attributed to past systemic racism, which is obviously what led to the high poverty rates and therefore high crime rates in the first place. However, the systemic discrimination that exists currently is based on class, not race. Though clearly black people got the short end of the stick there.
