I really hate it when people use the words 2nd Amendment as a coded threat, as in "The 2nd Amendment people will take care of it." It shows such a weak grasp of causes and consequences.

I have heard similar vague threats from relatives in Texas. I sincerely hope that they are just a bunch of lazy blowhards. As they would say, though, where there's smoke there's fire. I literally worry that a significant number of angry, well-armed white people will panic when Trump loses and move to take their country back by force.

I'm not a cloistered elite speculating about people I've never met. Half of my relatives would put themselves proudly into the basket of deplorables Of those, I have nontrivial concerns about 3, of whom one actually has a particular set of skills. However, they probably are lazy blowhards and I'm under a lot of stress.

I hate even finding it necessary to consider the possibility, but I sensed it coming when the Confederate flag people changed their argument to Real Patriots Secede.

2nd extremists are in California too? I read that it's the least likely state to vote for him...

Pravda, I'm not sure where I saw it, it's positive at any rate that his behaviour is actually affecting even safe states.

I'm curious where you got that data from. Most polls show Trump only barely leading in Texas, shockingly low for a Republican. Due to its very left-leaning young population and heavy Mexican immigration, it's expected to be a swing state by 2024.

California is the state where Trump polls lowest though, yeah.

Extremists are definitely in California. On the Saturday following the Friday release of the Gropergate tape, people stood on my corner while other people drove by and honked. I happened to be crushing a nearby Valor gym, so I stood there a while and noticed the bikers circling the block and honking each time they rode past. They weren't wearing colors, so I don't know which club they were from, if any.

For that matter, extremists are everywhere. You can go to the SPLC website and find your neighborhood Klan chapter. Before anyone starts in on the SPLC, let me point out that the chapters have their own websites with mailing addresses that match the SPLC data, but the hate map is a convenient tool for locating them.

Contrary to popular belief, right-wingers exist in California too. And they're not all Schwarzenegger-type centrists either.

You have "get off my lawn or I'll shoot you" militia-movement types, who mostly live up in State of Jefferson territory. You have religious-right fanatics, who exist in many places but concentrate the most around the Central Valley. San Diego is also pretty anti-immigration and militaristic as a general rule, though usually moderate on most other issues.

Absolutely. I'm a former rural person and current gun owner. I find it offensive when people talk about using guns on other people so casually.

PS: In the land of reality, the New Zealand government has announced this very day that it is immediately going to limit the numbers of immigrants it will allow to come here. I imagine it was always a tall hurdle for Americans of average means to emigrate to NZ. no $$$$$$$= no entry. no college degree = no entry. chronic illness = no entry. lack of squeaky-clean record = no entry. how could it have been made stricter?

...At the risk of possibly offending/maybe getting too " personal " ~ 8O :? can I throw this comment I once saw about the supposed difference between Anitpodean brothers Australia and New Zealand ?
The comment made , by someone else , (Really ! IT WAS NOT ME .; Considering my , um , dubious even-potential-traveler situation , as I posted previously , would I say something like this ?) was:
" Australia tends to be like the United States of thirty years previous . New Zealand tends to be like the United Kingdom of 30 years (Or 40?? , in both examples .) previous . " !
Really . I really did see it . Really !

...b1 ~ I was looking up Sinclair Lewis in theater ~ Primarily , I looked at the Internet Broadway Database , which just lists what played in the " Broadway " theaters in Manhattan in New York City (Not even the " Off-Broadway " and " Off Off Broadway " ones 8O !) ~ It does list more Lewis-connected shows than I thought 8O ! Including that the earlier , 1930s , play of " ICHH " I had read about was written by Lewis himself :o ! His son became an actor , as well .
Additionally , I read of a " recent " musical of DODSWORTH at The Sinclair Lewis Society (Um , find it yourself , please , I have some problems at this end AND , unforunately  , due to my computer limnitations , posting links is a drag for me :( . ) . I had thought that there had been a not-successful musical version of MAIN STREET under another title , but I guess that there wasn't .
I was more or less right , I guess , about " superannuated "'s meaning . I have been compared to/described as looking like " a superannuated Grateful Dead/Sir Doug Sahm roadie " , early " new wave "/punk era background or not ! :P Eeek  .

We have right wing fanatics and white supremacists here in the Pacific Northwest, too, and not just on the more conservative, east side of the Cascade mountain range, where I reside.

Imagine what would happen if the votes were split 50/50. That would be scary.

In all honesty, for all the bad stuff said about Clinton, I'd still consider democracy to be safest with her.

Is the only problem Trump? No way. It's also the people who accept these characteristics as compatible with presidential fitness. That's why it could happen.
