The point is, if they were paying $14,000.00 to avoid the penalty, they are extremely wealthy (because their penalty calculated at 2.5% of income) must exceed $14k, (that means they are making more than $350,000.00/year) or they are stupid, because it would be much cheaper to just pay the penalty.

I explicitly stated that the $14,000 was going towards Obamacare premiums. They are seniors, and wanted health care coverage.

They got the ACA subsidies last year.

This year , however, as a couple they are going to make like $50,000 total income. They qualify for some premium subsidies, however, they calculated they were going to have to re-pay Obamacare $14,000.

Well, they cancelled quickly.

They were ecstatic when they heard Trump was helping the little people by having the IRS forgo the Obamacare penalty.

No, this does not make any sense. If they are seniors, then they would qualify for medicare. If they qualify for subsidies under Obamacare then they are under 65, make less than 400% of federal poverty level and would pay a maximum of 8% for premiums. That would be much less than $14k.

I'm gonna haft call BS. Sorry.

Do you have a better explanation for Rednecks siding with the Repugnican party? Have you seen any videos by The Liberal Redneck? He explains things pretty well.

The President isn't going to invite any rednecks to visit him at Mar-A-Lago, even if they voted for him. Even Steve Bannon has to stay in Washington.

I have seen those vids.Good stuff.
What is the definition of a "redneck" ?Are you lumping all people of the South or just rural people in general in the uneducated nose picking group?
Trump carried his share of urban working class, not sure if they want to be classified as "redneck."
Anyway,I know a few " rednecks" that wanted Sanders.

It's funny how rednecks and hip hoppers hate each other when they actually have a lot in common. Sure, rednecks prefer country music and trucks while hip hoppers prefer rap music and cadillacs but they both drink and smoke excessively, call women "b*****s", get in fights over stupid reasons, tote guns, eat fried chicken, shop at Wal-Mart, and generally reject science as well as the arts. This is just my observation living in the Central Texas Bible Belt region.

This is absolutely true.

A lot of gangstas are just black rednecks. They even have similar slang y'all!

The gangsters and the rednecks should be teaming up against the corrupt corporate overlords.
They aren't doing this because the corporate media propaganda machine is working.

I would go with Jeff Foxworthy's definition, but add urban working class. People who are at the level of patronizing a Pay Day loan store. People who were easily conned by the greatest con man that the world has produced.

I just got a silly idea. What if there was a political radio show aimed at gangsters? Does that exist? It would be about gangsta rap, but it would also be about corporate corruption, environmentalism and Marxist theory.

Most gangsters have a lot of passionate anger. Unfortunately, that anger is largely directionless. The gangsters need a sense of direction.

1. As I explicitly stated, they were previously getting totally free Obamacare with the subsidies, so no they don't qualify for Medicare yet.

2. The reason they lost the totally free subsidies is because one of them found contract work.

Their household income is difficult to estimate, since they don't know if the work will continue or not. With both working, they're close to the 400% FPL household income number. So, they had to cancel Obamacare or risk repayment of the $14,000.

I'm reposting this from a comment I made on Quora

When I was an undergraduate, there was a saying "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullsh!t!"

Trump, by many accounts, is a narcissist. Narcissists, by their nature, are master manipulators. His "style" fits very well with the brilliance/bullsh!t crack I made above.

Unfortunately, and i know I'm going to take a lot of heat for this, the average American today is dumber than a stone, myself included. Instead of doing our own research and drawing out own individual conclusions, we have allowed ourselves to be force-fed intellectual pablum by the corporate news media (since print journalism is now owned by only a few major companies, and broadcast journalism by even fewer companies). It is journalism consultants now (and have done so, for the past 40 years) that feed us nothing but "happy-talk" and infotainment, because "we, the people" can't and won't face the bitter truth that is out there. In short, it's "kill the messenger" that brings us bad news.

The Sage of Baltimore, H. L. Mencken, was right when he opined "Never underestimate the intelligence of the American electorate." The intelligence of the electorate has lowered the bar so far that a basset hound would be a better choice to govern this country. For that matter, said basset hound could probably do a better job, despite being easily bribed with food.

Walt Kelly, the political commentator and cartoonist, who drew what I consider to be the precursor of Gary Trudea's Doonesbury, Pogo, probably said it best: "We have met the enemy, and he is us."

Ordinary people aren't stupid. They've just been fed lies upon lies.
We just need to focus on left-leaning populism. Let's take harsh truths and sell them to the poor as best we can.

If we say "People are just daft." then we are just surrendering.

Some of Foxworthy's stuff would apply to me and I sure didn't vote Trump.
Desperate people go to payday loan stores and desperate people put Trump in office. It's easy to con the desperate and sell them pie in the sky.

Sanders would have been an excellent president, and would have accomplished great things for this country. I certainly can't look down on the few "rednecks" who wanted him. At least they're not the type of "rednecks" who blame the Jews for everything.

Sanders, though, would not have persuaded the fake Christians. All Trump had to do was claim to be Christian, read a bit from "Two Corinthians", and the so-called "Bible Belt" was his for the taking.

Granted, Mr. Cooper is a public figure. But, dismissing what he says as "garbage" because he is a "nice white effeminate man" is offensive and homophobic.

The Rules wrote:

Jacoby didn't have any issue with anything that this "nice white effeminate man on CNN" specifically told us--only that he is a "nice white effeminate man"--and that alone is enough to dismiss anything that Mr. Cooper might have to say.

It is equivalent to arguing that President Obama never had anything of value to say, because he was a low-class N-Word.
