There are parts of this world that do in fact seem to be a "hell". Places ravaged by war and natural
disaster with people living in extreme poverty and being subjected to starvation and crime.

And the people living in such places are not "sinners". They did nothing to deserve living in such a state.

The real hell does not seperate the bad from the good. Like a wildfire or a flood it swallows up everything and everyone in site.

It’s remarkable to think of the literary works that we wouldn’t have without this concept.

Agreed. :)

Btw wiccans dont believe in hell. :D

Nor does the Jewish community, based on Howard Wolowitz. ;)

I actually DO believe in a hell, but like I said I think the real hell is earth. Especially during times of war.

Some spots of this particular hell are better than others. But hell does not claim the "sinners", it claims anybody it feels like.

In fact there are many "sinners" who run this world and create evil wars forcing the common man to mercilessly slaughter each other. They tame the hellfires to suit their own needs and they are the true Devils.

“Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.”

Spine-tingling! No matter what happens in life, one usually has hope.

Sounds to me as though their religion doesn't have a high regard for reason.

Since when did reason have anything to do with religion?

Maybe I should start my own religion?

I will name my deities Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry.

Strawberry is the Mother Goddess and creator of life, Vanilla is the God of Law and Love who tells us how to to be good, and Chocolate is the God of Evil and Crime who tempts us to the dark side.

It is as read by the prophets Baskin and Robbins!

I believe in atoms and void, and atomism and heaven/hell don't mix. It's either one or the other.

But I like chinese depictions of hell, mire than western ones. I think it's the style if drawing that makes chinese depictions of hell strangely appealing, while at the same time being absolutely awful in content.

What do you think was so scary about "under the ground" that it became the "underworld". Is it because bodies were buried under the ground or in tombs or caves?

It is very hot below a certain point in the Earth’s crust. It’s absolute sizzling in the Earth’s core.

Being buried alive is a primal fear.

In the American Civil War there was a POW camp located in New York called Elmira that was nicknamed "Hellmira" because of the horrible and abusive living conditions that caused many Confederates prisoners imprisoned there to die. They were starved and left to freeze to death out in the snow as they had to sleep in tents, and disease spread rampant among the prisoners. To add insult to injury families would bring their children and pay the guards so that they could watch the prisoners like a big tourist attraction.

Basically it was the Union's version of the Confederate's Andersonville.

War is indeed hell.

You call that hell?
Eisenhower's death camps were hell.
"He" didn't even supply tents and shot relatives and friends who tried to feed the German POWs after the war.
Oh, that's right, they change the designation of the POWs so they wouldn't have to abide by the Geneva convention. 8O

Read about Elmira.

Yes, I'm well aware of the fact that Americans are ALWAYS commiting war crimes and getting away with it while lying about it to their youth. You don't have to remind me.

Most Americans are not committing war crimes. That's a fallacy.

Most Americans just go about their business.

I meant the American government more than I did the American people.

But I think the way Americans judge other countries for war crimes while ignoring the genocide and POW abuse commited by their own government is pretty sh***y.

I know this is waaaay off topic but this is how I would describe your typical Americans, especially in conservative areas like where I live.

American: The Germans are so evil for commiting genocide on the Jews!

Me: We commited genocide on the Native Americans you know.

American: Oh.. well... that was a long time ago. We're not like that anymore!

Me: (Yeah, right...)

Or

American: The Japanese are so evil for attacking Pearl Harbor!

Me: Compared to what we did by dropping atomic bombs on two of their cities killing millions of innocent civilians with radiation including children?

American: Big deal! All that did was end the war!

Attitudes like that are exactly why I despise this country.
