It's funny when you mention "southerner" hating yankees we know it can't be a black southerner because black southerners left in droves to the north escape people like the southerner fellow you mention (for obvious reasons).

Always a good a idea to keep an open mind on these things...black southerners are proud of their roots but don't carry these ridiculous grudges, if anything they are grateful they didn't end up chattel forever.

How would you know about Black folk from the South?Been around them much? Some don’t like Muslims or Hispanics.

When it comes to myself I actually knew a lot of black people growing up in Georgia. Over half my classmates were black and so were my teachers, and one of my uncles is African American. Georgia is one of those southern states that has a very high black population just like Louisiana.

And I've met some black people who told me that they think "white people are all the same" both north and south. Even though I know in my heart that's not true, I can see exactly where they come from with thinking that.

I lived in Memphis for a year,Little Rock and in the South part of Arkansas, lots of Black folk, some didn’t like whites and I can’t really blame them. Some of the older White racists were just awful.

I can relate. Also I've gotten along really well with just about every black person I ever met, even ones who didn't like white people. The reason for that is because I never treated them like they were were inferior to me because of the color of their skin.

Again, I can relate to that too. :) In school I got along better with the black kids than the white kids, probably for the same reasons you did. They knew I was being bullied too and I wasn't judging them for their skin color so we were always playing together.

Especially true with black females (and some white females too). People seemed to know that I was gay before I did, and I was often bullied by homophobic boys both black and white for this but the the girls were always more forgiving of me being gay. I always felt like one of the girls lol.

Personally i like the fact that we have a lot of different races on the planet.
As variety is the spice of life. I think that different colours and shapes makes life more interesting.

I do find the entire race supremacy thing extremely disheartening / frustrating / ignorant / evil etc.

Lastly, if people were to pursue a "go back to where you come from" mentality,
if we all traced our genetics back far enough, people with a dominant white caucasian genetic background,
would have to go back to Norway. Would be interesting to try and fit all the white caucasians on the planet back in one small country.

I think that it would be more logical to send all the people who are liked minded to various areas. So they they could all live what they think is the dream life. See how it pans out. Would be interesting experiment.

Perhaps in the US, it would be possible to send all the far right race supremacists to their own state.
While all those who learn towards democracy, to their own sates.
Send all those who believe in Islam, to a country where they can create their own ideal Muslim world,
and on and so on.

This idea could even work for people who are addicted to hard drugs. Send all the heroin users to Afghanistan
the various governments could even pay for a closed estate to be built with decent living accommodation and entertainment, as the heroin is so super cheap. like 2 p per gram

this strategy could be very similar to Buddhist Tantra, where the individual experiences the various activities in life
to the extreme in order to eventually see the futility of the activity, reach a crisis and then search for a method to transcend their problem (addiction / aversion). We all must learn by our own mistakes. Not that i recommend this path to anyone, but it may be a solution to people who have fallen down that path and now struggle with addiction.

I heard that Lincoln, who was Northerner, wanted to send blacks back to Africa. Obviously, northerners would deny it. But, in the same way, southerners would deny the accusation that they all wanted slavery. Modern day northerners, of course, don't want to send blacks to africa. But similarly modern day southerners aren't necesserely racist (I heard of blacks in mississippi proudly singing dixie and plenty of people there waving confederate flag and having lots ofb lackf friends). Now, I wouldn't say that on a balance northerners are "worse" or anything like that. I am just saying that there are two sides to every story, and you shouldn't assume the position of one side when you are trying to describe what those sides are.

Earlier in his Presidency, Lincoln had considered colonizing blacks in Africa or even South America, but by the end of his life he had come to realize whites would have to learn to live with blacks. In fact, the last speech he gave was about extending voting rights and full citizenship to freed slaves.

Well, if confederates were to win the war, the something similar could have happened. At first they would expand slavery even further but, at some point later, they might have realized that its not the way to go and free the slaves. You don't know that this wouldn't have happened since confederates never won so we can just speculate. I guess thats the case of winner rewriting history.

Why should anyone quote Stormfront or use it as anything factual?

Please re-read my message. I didn't say I agreed with Stormfront. In fact I said just the opposite, that I debated with them -- which implies I disagreed.

However, yes it is possible to extract factual information from people I disagree with -- in particular, the information pertaining to people's beliefs. For example, I believe stormfront is wrong in saying Jews aren't White since I think they are WHite. At the same time I learned something from them: in particular, I learned that some people believe Jews aren't White -- and that statement is true, even though their belief is wrong.

Very possibly not. The Confederate constitution stated that no law would be passed to end slavery. Slavery was not just an economic engine, but a matter of social status that was of all importance to the wealthy planter class. I personally think more likely that the Confederacy would have held onto slavery even if it was driving them economically and socially into the ground as long as people at the top could say they were landed aristocracy, and the poorest of the poor could say they were at least better than slaves.
Regarding the north rubbing the south's nose in defeat - - from a northern standpoint, I think much of that arises from those white southerners who claim the war had been over states rights, and had nothing to do with slavery, which is completely in error. That, and talk about "the War of Northern Aggression" doesn't win any points with us, either.

Who the hell calls it "The war of northern aggression"? It's "The Civil War" here. I think that's just another southern stereotype. I never hear anybody in the south refer to the Civil War that way except for yankee actors with phony southern accents trying to mock the south on TV.

Irish immigrants were sometimes treated worse than the slaves in the South. If you were a slave owner you didn’t want to risk your property being damaged doing dangerous work, you’d have to pay to replace the slave. If an Irish immigrant lost their life to malaria draining a swamp it was no financial loss to the land holder.

It's been used by the white southern right and their sympathizers since the end of the Civil War. Ask JohnPowel what he calls the Civil War, as he's a Lincoln hating, Confederate sympathizer. Georgia Senator Broun, who had left the Senate a few years ago, used the term, as do Neo-Confederates on a regular basis.

It can't be that commonly used if I spent 19 years of my life in Georgia and never heard that term used by anyone except in mocking stereotypes like this:

If a second American Civil War ever breaks out between the right and left I'm washing my hands of this country and will stow away to the islands.

It ain't going to happen......

There won't be a civil war. Most people don't hate other folks enough for that. It's only the radical fringe on the Internet which is giving you these fears.

The Lefties and the Righties here don't hate each other. They just like to debate, and to prevail in argument.

I believe if any Righty here was drowning----that any Lefty here would save that person----and vice versa.

Yes and when they went up north they discovered that white northerners are just as racist as white southerners, but of course they pretend not to be.

And I wouldn't say these grudges are ridiculous. If yankees really wanted the country to heal and for us to get over the fact that we lost the Civil War they wouldn't be constantly talking s**t about us or rubbing our noses in the fact that we lost.

Yankees are a bunch of sore winners. Typical American attitude when it comes to winning any war.

I am not trying to pick a fight with you, but that is factually wrong. And as ass-backward as it can be. The average northern US White adult person stops thinking about the Civil War in the tenth grade. Its southerners who are obsessed with the Civil War. Not that there aren't understandable reasons for them to be obsessed with it. The war was fought in their backyards, and not on northern soil for the most part. Most Northern White families weren't even in the US until their ancestors came here from southern or eastern Europe through Ellis Island in the 1880's through 1920 era (after the civil war), while southerners (black and white) tends to have deeper roots in their current community that were effected by the Civil War. And so on. Now recently there is a trend towards northern millennials thinking about confederate statues. But if you're talking about my parents generation, or even about my boomer generation, you have it all backwards. Its the south that obsesses about their defeat. Folks in the Bronx, and Chicago, never think about the civil war..
