If you had a better health system,
Would that give you some alleviation?

that would smooth over a LOT. that is my single biggest beef with amuuurican right wingers, their insistence that health care should be unaffordable for the working class.

We have a medicare tax, for those over a certain salary threshold.
It seems to work well here in Oz and Canada.
I find it bemusing something similar can't be done over there.

That's a big part of the right's belief in hierarchical social and class structures. For them, there has to be someone on the bottom who are deprived of even things necessary to life, all so those at the top can glory in their status.

What you described is not normal psychology.
There must be more involved than that.
Perhaps an American conservative view might help here?

their typical view is "sink or swim" and "not MY problem" [while laughing at us].

it likely would work gangbusters well over here as well but the richie-rich righties have got the middle class convinced that they would lose what health care they have if the working class got any health care benefits. there is an old joke about a worker, a union leader and a CEO going into an employee breakroom, there's a table with a plate of cookies on it- the CEO snarfs up all but one cookie then whispers to the worker, "psst- look out for that union guy- he wants a piece of your cookie!"

That joke could apply to other situations but I wont derail the thread to say what

A blind CEO walks into a bar.  Hearing that Jesus is at one of the tables in back, he says to the bartender, "Draw me a beer and send one to Jesus while you're at it."

A few minutes later, a wheelchair-bound woman rolls in.  She sees Jesus and tells the bartender to get her a beer and send one back to Jesus.

Next a union leader in a neck brace enters, buys himself a beer and sends one over to Jesus.

On his way out, Jesus stops to thank each one.  He touches the CEO, curing him of blindness.  "Thank you Jesus! Now I can see!"

Then He touches the woman, who rises from her wheelchair. "Thank you, Jesus!  Now I can walk!"

Finally, He approaches the union representative, who backs away saying, "STAY AWAY FROM ME, JESUS!  I'M ON DISABILITY!"

Well, between who, and exactly for what reasons?

Between the people that want lockdown and the ones that don't want lockdown

Aren't a lot of Trump supporters working-class people?

As those against the lockdown are protesting without any concern for the virus, it can be argued that nature will save us the trouble of a civil war.

I'm confused about what you are saying here.

Did Obama improve the health system in America?

Absolutely correct that that isn't normal psychology.
There are WP members on the right. Many of them are of the opinion that the rest of us indulge in class envy for pointing out inequities.

He certainly had for millions of us.
