Well the tories scrapped the old benefits system and put UC in its place.

So yeah a change in power and a change of a benefits system that did work in favour of one that left people without any money for the first five weeks of signing on.

I mean if you already living hand to mouth before putting a claim in then how on earth are you supposed to survive for five weeks after you come out of work and put in a situation where you need to sign on. That's how I come to one of my conclusions of why there are more people forced to use food banks. The other one is the recent cost of living thing where people that are working are being forced to use them.

It's f*****g barbaric and not to mention shameful if you ask me, that in one of the richest economies in the world, in the 21st century, people (who for no fault of their own) are forced to use food banks that are actually stocked (in a lot of cases) by the likes of you and me who are also struggling on the bones of our arses.

A country without a government? Cool! I'm flying to the UK.

Don't do that. Because as a refugee in Britain you will be sent to Rwanda to be 'processed.' Whatever that means.

What is so good about Tom Tugendhat as opposed to the other candidates?

I dunno. People seem to like that he has a military background.

Maybe he didn’t go to Eton.

The current crop of senior Tories are so incompetant, corrupt and vicious, Micheal bloody Gove is the only one I have any respect for. Never thought I'd say that. They're going to struggle to find anyone untainted by the past 3 years' goings on. Anyone who's been out of favour since 2018 is instead going to be heavily associated with "austerity," which even dyed-in-the-wool Tory voters don't want to hear about right now.

That is, rather dim and unreliable.

I find myself sympathising more often with the regular blokes than with the people running things.

I'd taken to referring to Johnson as "Posh Trump." So, yes.

... and unfortunately Priti Patel seems to be hanging on to her ministry like grim death.

The reason I'm personally supporting Tugendhat is:

- he has plenty of integrity. He won't try to do things like illegally prorogue parliament, try to change the rules to save his friends, or cover up sex scandals.
- he is a relatively liberal Tory. He isn't obsessed with bashing refugees and trans people the way that right-wing Tories are, he's more concerned about things like the cost of living.
- He won't take an ideological approach to Brexit, but a pragmatic one.
- He has a very good grasp of foreign relations. He will help to restore British leadership and plan for tomorrow.

The thing I don't like about Tugendhat is his promise to cut fuel duty, which needs to be raised in order to discourage people from buying fuel.

My thought is that it will probably go to a vote of the membership, and the members will probably choose someone more "hardline". My hope is that the real nutters like Baker and Braverman (two of the worst Tory MPs) cannibalise each other's support in the early rounds and we end up with something like Hunt-Javid (or better, Hunt-Tugendhat) in the final round.

I hope Braverman and Baker don't stand much of a chance. Baker would be pushing for a Hunger Games style society.

Tugendhat is much more towards the centre and would bring some calm to proceedings imo

Though if he has taken his hat off and thrown it into the ring is he now only Tom Tugend?!

Braverman is being called the female version of Trump. Quoted as having said that she will wage a war on woke.
