The US had the same opportunity to rectify their own sins following their own civil war following 1865 which tore the US in half.

I'm of the opinion that war should always be prevented whenever possible.

But then again I'm also of the opinion that all humans are terrible creatures and that this world will become a slightly better place when we are no longer around.

Too extreme

That's because I have bipolar disorder. Some days I weep for humanity, other days I secretly wish for a zombie apocalypse to take over the world.

Humans aren't so bad when you compare them to chimps or meerkats (or many other animals). We're pretty mid, actually.

Maybe they would if they were intelligent enough.

They're too busy killing each other with their bare hands.

That doesn't mean they wouldn't use them if they could comprehend them. Basically, what TP said. :nerdy:

One has to question how humans came into such advanced knowledge?

Evolution and then the gradual accumulation of scientific knowledge pushed along by governments.

Compared to other animals we're a lot better at passing on knowledge, we're also a lot better at abstract thinking.

Between the one and the two we're able to stand on the (intellectual) shoulders of our ancestors in a way no other animal can.

This leads to much better abilities to socially organize ourselves, an ever expanding knowledge base, and due to our civilizations and the division of labour that results, some of us can actually specialize on skills that aren't just getting our daily food.

I don't dispute that humans have evolved into a multicellular virus who keep reproducing out of control/exploiting/plundering the earth and are destined to overpopulate and spread into the galaxy (unless we destroy ourselves first).

Going against this programming (having less/no children, stopping pollution, preserving wildlife, stopping discrimination/war, stop eating animals etc etc) is all considered woke these days.

The ableists, ageists, classists, racists, sexists, and xenophobes.

I might take your whining about “racism” more seriously if you hadn’t had an Israeli flag as your avatar for the past two months.

I guess we can conclude you are generally supportive of Israel’s ongoing mass murder of “Amalekite” civilians in Gaza.

according to the FBI right wing groups represent the biggest terror threat in the US. If you are gay or black then there are large tracts of the US which are dangerous to travel. Lots of angry white folks in middle america (we saw them as "angry" and in a mob on Jan 6).

You’re another poster who frequently makes excuses for the murderous, racially supremacist actions of Israel.

As far as I’m concerned, you and Fnord have zero credibility on this issue.

The term "woke" is highly controversial. When right wing writer Bethany Mandel, spearheading the intellectual basis of the anti-woke movement was interviewed she quite shockingly was unable to define "wokeness"
https://www.forbes.com/sites/danidiplac ... oes-viral/

So as a cultural phenomena the concept (largely a popular reactionary movement from western conservatives) is still quite fluid.

The anti-woke caravan is now doing it's rounds in various parts of the western world. In France its now considered that having short hair in a beauty pageant is considered "woke" aimed at the new Miss France winner
https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/real- ... 31c3792612

What is bizarre is that many of the most iconic symbols of fashion have always included the short hair look? Many in France are confused at the backlash.

So what is considered "woke" and who get's to decide?

How many people here actually read the linked story about the “anti-woke backlash” against the new Miss France’s short hair? The ‘backlash’ amounted to a few unnamed people moaning on Twitter/X.

As for Bethany Mandel, I don’t know who told you that she’s the “intellectual spearhead of the anti-woke” movement, but she seems to be just another Ben Shapiro type, i.e., someone whose agenda is to manipulate the (justifiable) anger of ordinary Americans and re-direct it toward supporting the aggressive, expansionist nationalism of an entirely different country (namely Israel). So it’s no wonder her rhetoric is confused.

I guess this is the sort of nonsense that makes liberals feel smug about themselves though.

They didnt invent life saving antibiotics, nor vaccines, nor CAT scans, nor indoor plumbing either.

I wasn't so much concerned over the sample size on X, it's fairly obvious that small numbers of "unnamed moaning people" on social media seem to be disproportionally driving the anti-woke sentiment on social media.

Hence my question (which you seem too preoccupied attacking WP members rather than answer the question posed) who are these unnamed people and how/why do they get to decide what is woke?

Your point advertises the glaring fact that there is a scarcity of intellectual rigor in the anti-woke movement. For example the darling of the anti-woke conservatives was for many years Jordan Peterson. Peterson was a former tenured Professor in clinical psychology at Toronto University. His sudden u-turn into a crusader against "wokeness" was celebrated and many millions of conservatives and misogynistic young men (red pill types) found an articulate voice to turn to. However, Peterson specifically made inflammatory claims that breached his own ethical code to practice psychology (to not cause harm). He was thus barred from practicing by the Canadian Psychology Association (and rightly so). After being disbarred he was no longer of good character to the University of Toronto who also sacked him.

The atomic bomb wasn't invented until after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor in December 7th 1941.

It wasn't used until after Japan was fire bombed and showed no intention of surrendering despite being surrounded by overwhelming conventional forces.
