Actually... yes i am. I would not be suprised at all if Osama Bin Laden was a CIA operative and the 9/11 attacks were orchestrated as an excuse for certain western countries to invade the Middle East (where theres guess what? lots of oil) and adopt fascist policies

While we are all labeling this group with all the problems, we are not seeing the
"man behind the curtain."
Fascism will go marching on no matter who we throw out.
Bush is a puppet, a figurehead for the elite.
I agree. Bush simply isnt smart enough to lead a country by himself, let alone pull off a scheme like the one i sed a few posts erlier about the 9/11 attacks... theres deffintly someone else behind the scenes

President Bush is going to be all right. No matter what anybody says about him. He is just that way.
Don't be so sure. He is on a very slippery slope.
Mithrandir is right though. Bush is merely the public face of a much larger problem. We must think of new ways to defeat the elite.
I say we tax the corporate elite into the ground, and when they refuse to pay, we chuck 'em in jail. We can nationalise their companies by force if necessary!! !
i agree about restricting corporations more, but some arent that bad.

Thus setting today's youths up for a similarly run political administration.
Yes. It starts at school. Which is why the defiance has to start there to, or [oppression*] will be accepted at a national level as well.
*edited from "it", which, after re-reading, I thought could be misinterpreted to mean defiance rather than oppression.

dunno about Animal Farm, that sounds more like a Star Wars scenario... (http://www.starwars.com/databank/character/palpatine/index.html)
With spoken regrets, Palpatine accepted the new mantle of power. He promised to return his absolute authority to the Senate after the emergency subsided. What no one realized was that the galaxy would undergo further upheaval, and that a state of crisis would ensure Palpatine's authority for decades.

The most significant common thread among these regimes was the use of scapegoating as a means to divert the peoples attention from other problems, to shift blame forfailures, and to channel frustration in controlled directions.
lets see... al qaeda?
Al Qaeda are our enemy. They are not scapegoats.
Are you implying that they don't exist?! !
Al-Qaeda are our enemy, but that still doesn't contradict the third item on the list.
Look at the topic sentence again:
3. Identification of ENEMIES/scapegoats as a unifying cause.
Also, if you look at the explanation, America's 'War on Terror' also makes sense. Instead of having people focus on problems in the US, the governmet diverts the American citizen's attention on things like terrorism. The government does this to cover up its own mistakes, and the government is using it as a unifying cause.
He missed out 2 very important ones. Bush's America and Brown/Blair's Britain
Errrrrrrrm ... no. Britt didn't forget about Bush. The whole point of his article was to suggest that Bush's America might be on the road towards becoming a fascist state. I've already mentioned how ridiculous I think this is, but even more ridiculous is your idea: that America already is a fascist state.
If America really were a fascist state, do you think you'd have people like Michael Moore making millions out of anti-government propaganda?
Anyway, since you think that Osama Bin Laden is working for the CIA (ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!! !! !! !), I think I'll just leave it at that.

The "war on terror" as a unifying cause is not the reason Bush went to war in Iraq; rather it is the reason why leftists are so obsessively against the Iraq war. Since most leftists always oppose the status quo, they cannot bring themselves to offer even the tiniest amount of support for a war effort (the war on terror that is, not just the war in Iraq) that might run and run.
If the US government really decided to wage a "war on terror" as a unifying cause, then, for some people, it clearly hasn't worked. They must have known this was likely given the influence of idiots like Noam Chomsky, Michael Moore and other leftist media types.

Did you read the explanation of the third part? This is the most important part that applies: ... a means to divert the peoples attention from other problems. The only time the country has been worse off was during the Great Depression. What does George W. Bush think he should do? 'Let's go to war so people forget that my administration and I are screwing up America.'
As for some people opposing the war, 'unifying cause' doesn't necessarily mean that everyone supports it. Do you honestly think that every citizen who has lived in a facist country supported war? No! That is much more ridiculous than claiming Osama Bin Laden works for the CIA.

If your talking about the 9/11 attacks, i no i cant exactly say the same about the Twin Towers, but the Pentagon WAS a ligitimate target (probably THE most ligitimate target in the modern world...)
