The worst thing about religion

millions, billions, whatever. Billions is even worse then! And its maths not math, use our launguage properly please. Haha, now you speaking in riddles, all I want is a simple answer. You sound very much like a politician. So there are christians that have different theories, what does it matter? Its all untrue. Seriously you better watch your mouth, you 18 year old little twat. And you and the other religious people are the ones being arrogant. Who put everything here? not just this planet and the life on it, but everything, where does it all end? Back when the bible was written the world was flat, so the more we find out, the more ridiculous christianity is becoming.
No, "math skills" is a legitimate thing.
He isn't speaking in riddles either. He is saying that the position you present as wrong isn't even a position that a Christian has to refute. Heck, even if Christians had to believe in a 6 day creation thousands of years ago, they could still probably present their case against you and prove that it could not be disproven.
Also, how can you prove a specific theory untrue if you do not know what that theory happens to be?
Umm.... I don't see how the religious people are being that arrogant. You are saying that they have been refuted just because. The answer to your questions from a religious standpoint is that God put all things in order, often from timeless eternity. Their stance is that other answers to the cosmological problem fail.

thats BS. Says who? bollocks to rules, i'll say whatever the hell I want. I know god doesn't excist, and anyone in their right mind will also know that.
Say most people, it isn't an arbitrary rule but rather factual. If you do not know something, you cannot argue against it, just as I cannot argue linguistics.
Also, how do you know that no being that can be called a god exists? If you assert that last statement, then what defines a "right mind". The only way the argument works is if a "right mind" is simply one that agrees with you, as psychologists do not argue that theists are mentally damaged as best as I know.

^ What Twoshots said. And seriously, "millions is billions?" Right. Now your basic math skills are also in question. And as I said, you are arguing against one specific interpretation of Genesis that is not shared by most theologians or lay Christians. You are arguing against a phantom that exists only on the outer fringes of Christian belief. Hardly an effective way of refuting Christianity. Your objection has been answered, though you were unable even to understand your objection in the first place so there is little hope that you would comprehend the answer. Carry on with being an arrogant little prick.
millions, billions, whatever. Billions is even worse then! And its maths not math, use our launguage properly please.
The next f**k tard to make that statement gets my unbridled wrath:

And no, it's math without an "s", b/c math is an abbreviation of "mathematics" where there is no longer a functional singular form so the "s" clitic no longer serves a creative grammatical function so including it in the abbreviation is completely stupid. On top of that, "math" is attested some 21 years before "maths", and both words came into existence long after "mathematics" had taken over the singular use. And America has more native English speakers than the rest of the English world put together.

No, you don't know it. You don't even know what you're trying to refute, let alone whether or not it is true or false. Your "arguments" are thinly disguised intuitions. I don't see how you can seriously claim to be the one in the more rational position when you don't grasp basic dialectic.
stupid little american. Its maths you prick! We use maths, its our English language, you speak it. Course america does, cause its a huge country! You've changed our language, you pronounce most words the wrong way. But a lot of our country speaks the correct way
I'm just saying religion is a joke, its not even worthy of a general discussion.
Just to be more of an American prick, let's be honest: the English can't even handle post-vocalic /r/, you think I'm going to take lessons from y'all?
And the French called; they'd like you to stop butchering their words.

But damn, you americans christians come out in numbers! Its always the same. I haven't got the energy or the so called intelligence to respond to you all.
Benjamin, the majority of the people who have criticized you in this thread are non-religious. They are just annoyed at shoddy reasoning, just as I am often annoyed when I see a right-wing Christian make foolish and unfounded arguments for theism. The issue isn't one of beliefs, it is of the ability to think rationally and communicate effectively.
And no, Phagocyte is not a mod. No mods have posted on this thread yet.
BTW, the idea that people used to believe the Earth was flat is mostly an urban legend. Knowledge that the Earth is round dates back to the ancient Greeks.

I have heard it argued that some people believe the Bible was written based upon a flat earth, you know how Satan took Jesus to a high mountain to show him the kingdoms of the earth? That'd only be possible on a flat earth, the same as the earth having corners or a foundation. Not trying to say anything authoritative though.

Some JW's once gave me a pamphlet where they quoted Bible verses that they say demonstrate a Biblical belief in a round Earth. The story of the temptation of Jesus isn't relevant in the literalistic details like that, especially since the "kingdoms of the earth" could as easily have been the various Mid-Eastern kingdoms as that is the setting of most Biblical narration. And no, Christians in general don't have any theological reason to believe in a flat earth, and never have. Heck, when the Catholics persecuted Galileo for heliocentrism, does anyone think they believed the sun revolved around a flat surface? The Ptolemaic astronomy in vogue at the time affirmed a round Earth.

and the majority are americans! trust me i've been here before. Trouble is i'm amongst, sorry to say it but "geeks". I don't study, and never invested much time in it at school. Sport is my thing, and I can mix with normal people, something i'm sure a lot of you would have trouble with. If I studied to back up my beliefs, you lot would be in trouble cause I can obviously get to people without much knowledge, and its not just cause i'm supposedly being arrogant, its cause there's a huge element of truth in what i'm saying.
well he should really be quiet then and not tell me what I can and can't do. Yet? who cares if they do, i've argued with all of them.
it was just an example, that the bible was written a long time ago. I hope we find another life-form in our time, if we could communicte with them, it would be interesting to find out how they believe they were created. But one way or the other, science will prove religion wrong, and you'll need even more faith.

Yes, the majority of posters on this site are American. So? It's not like anyone here is backing me up because of national unity or anything silly like that.

Yes, many of us have our special interests and can be pedantic when we see people saying foolish things. That's just part of Asperger's. You want to hang around WP, get used to that kind of reaction. I don't care whether or not you study, basic reasoning skills are as much an indication of underlying intelligence as of study time.

It's "sports" not "sport." Use our language properly.

Ooh, I'm afraid. The semi-literate British guy might try to study to refute my beliefs. I have to say, Richard Dawkins is a really smart guy, and he's devoted his entire life to refuting Christianity, but still not managed to do so. There's no element of truth in anything you've said so far; you've produced nothing but a string of barely comprehensible strawmen arguments.Quote:

How? Religion falls outside the bounds of science, and there's no real overlap between the two.

I wouldn't have repeated that statement so many times, but slowmutant is correct. Faith falls outside the bounds of scientific inquiry.
