Never having been religious in any way I really do not understand what this "spirituality" is. In distinction to a number of people I do not nor find the need to have a "soul" whatever that might be. I am conscious and kind to helpless things and try to help animals and people that need help and do this without any "spirit" or "soul" whatsoever. What is this all about?
From my perspective, a person who aspires, could be said to be spiritual. Consider related terms to approximate a meaning. Aspire, despire, expire, aspiration, despiration(desperation), respiration, spiral, spirit, spire. When I think of the word "soul", I think of the word "Sol", which is a name for our sun. This brings to mind other terms such as, sole, solidarity, soldier, solid, solace, solder, solute, solvent, salt, etc. When I think of the word soul, I "feel" that it means "one" as in a combined aggregate of parts. Spirit seems to be more of an action oriented word, though someone who seems to do little could also be a spiritual person as in they aspire toward inward endeavors. The inner and outer are reflections of one another. Their is another topic within which the supposed etymology is referenced and associates spiritualism with breath. This can relate to the feedback loop within society as in what we put out inevitably produces fruit of some form or other.
