Oh well if we're going to base our decisions on the potential of things then we should never do anything. We shouldn't lock up criminals because they have the potential to cure cancer or we shouldn't cure cancer because a brain tumor has the potential to make someone really smart who will fix all the worlds problems but shouldn't because it would be infringing on the pure potential of everything.

That same cluster of cells also has the potential to kill the mother if the pregnancy goes wrong and the baby born (if their is one) has the potential to be the most ruthless dictator and murderer the world has ever seen.

You shouldn't try to selectively predict the future like that.

It's a mass of cells what might happen if left alone no one can predict.

In that it has a cumulative effect? That's just daft and bears no resemblance to actual biology.

In that you are always taking a risk, and some people are "lucky", live a long time, suffer little ill effects etc, and others get caught out, some of them a lot sooner than others.

Three of my closest women friends, and myself, were all "caught out" in our first year of having penile-vaginal penetrative sex.

It is like smoking in that you don't know if it will be you, you are careful, but there will be 19-33 abortions for every 1000 women, ( and that 1000 includes women not even having sex, or very rarely ). The threat hangs over every woman having p-v penetrative sex.

Does the kind of sex really matter? Can't you people use condoms or other birth control?

I think that the threat may well have an effect on how much some/many ( especially sensitive )women enjoy p-v penetrative sex, as opposed to all other kinds of sexual activity, and will also influence her choice of partners, in a way which will disadvantage every man who does not seem to have "good" genes, or does not look like he will be able to support and "protect" her if she does get pregnant.

And even if a woman does choose to have sexual relationships with those men who don't "fit in"/are not alpha-beta males, etc, she may not enjoy sex so much as she would if it did not apparently necessarily involve the risky penetrative sex, because the man is not a good bet for reproduction, and she may leave the relationship sooner ( than she would have otherwise ), to find someone with whom she feels safer engaging in it.

Read the statistics I quoted a page or two back; 70% of abortions performed in Australia in 2007 were because of failed contraception. There is always a risk when engaging in penile-vaginal penetrative sex.

Condoms and birth-control are widely available and should be used. It's always better to prevent unwanted pregnancies than having to abort them later. An ounce of prevention really is worth a point of cure. Ladies, why not take ownership of your body before you are impregnated?

"The pill" only has a 0.3% failure rate. The real-world failure rate is due to people forgetting to take the pill. Condoms have a 2% failure rate. Use both if needed.

The pill is also unreliable when have a stomach bug, get sick, diarrheoa, etc, and the numbers of routine stomach upsets is increasing.

The fact remains that even when people use contraception there is a risk. Which in Australia last year resulted in almost 60,000 abortions, ( 70% of the 84,000 in total ).

Nothing is without risk. If an accidental pregnancy does occur, then an abortion is an option.

You can always just refrain from having sex, if unwanted pregnancy seems so inevitable.

If only that were a viable option. The basic unwavering genetically instilled drives of the human creature is "Eat, drink (water), sleep, pain avoidance, and sex".

When you get down to it just about everything we want and do stems from one of those drives.

You might as well tell people to stop sleeping or stick their hand in a fire.

The "day after" pill should work in case of emergencies.

There's also abortion as an option, just do it fast, as fast as possible, (make sure to consider it a last resort, keep it in the "worst case scenario" file... always use a condom) The spirit/God spark is not attached to the body until the first 4 or 6 months. Do it the first month to be sure.

So you suffer from priapism, is that what you're saying? Are you addicted to sex? If so, I'll have to say I do not envy you.
