Is the moon landing a hoax?
And this is the exact concept I've been endlessly pondering for almost three months now.
However, if I (in any sense of the pronoun) do not exist, then I could not be experiencing this life. It's a matter of absolute logic and I will argue one of the few, if not the only thing, I can proclaim with certainty. Of course, anything outside of "I", including the intricacies mind and body and the universe around me, can never be known with certainty because of the concept you outlined. So, in essence, I do agree with you.
How does this still pertain to the OP? Any decision we make about the universe around us is nothing more than deduction of probability with the knowledge we have at hand, and we believe our conclusions to varying degrees of justification. The moon landing happens to be one of the things which is very justified to believe happened (and the evidence against it is very, very weak).

It should be understood that "I" is a very fragile concept. Even the raw physics of our passage through time being aware of a succession of moments is not clearly definable as I have asked scientific sources about the existence of "now" and received very little in the way of an intelligent reply. The literature produced by Oliver Sacks, the neurologist, in books such as "The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat" clearly demonstrates what a vaporous concept the self could be. It has all the solidity of a wind driven ripple on a pond. Anybody who has had contact with a person suffering from Alzheimer's is aware of this. Every night the entire world dissolves into fantastic cities and planets where I can fly by force of will alone and wonderful architectures arise that mimic and exaggerate what we know of reality. For a time I feared to go to sleep where my memories and my sense of myself would dissolve into different structures and I was unsure if I would be myself again in the morning. Reality can be very fragile.
I am not particularly sure about a jellyfish or a sponge but I guess a grasshopper has a sense of self or it could not protect itself from danger. Bees have the ability to distinguish amongst humans (see http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Face+time ... 0140143992) with a brain the size of a pinhead so the sense of self is a widely variable thing.
i believe it did take place. i will just talk about one mission like the first one.
the price of a hoax would be higher than the price of the real trip.
everyone saw the saturn V rocket take off, so if it was a hoax, then that was the first cost. the astronauts were definitely aboard that rocket as is testified to by so many witnesses. if the rocket was planned to just catapult them up and out of sight, and then disengage, and let the capsule fall back to the sea, then very many people involved in the rescue process would have to be sworn to silence. it is not possible to conduct such an elaborate hoax that grips the world where all the thousands involved in it are going to stay quiet about it. there would be many people who would have proof that it was a hoax if it was.
the most compelling evidence that it is true (i never questioned it though) is the behavior of the dust that is kicked up by the boots of the astronauts in the moon walk videos. on earth, there is an atmosphere that means that if you kick up a cloud of dust, the heavier particles will fall faster (given their mass to volume ratio which results in variable wind resistance). all the heavy grains of dust hit the ground first, and the microscopic particles hang in a shroud.
in an environment without an atmosphere, all the grains of dust will fall at the same speed and they will all hit the ground at the same time. they will not leave a haze or shroud of recalcitrant particles in the "air".
to simulate this for a hoax would require that it be filmed in a vacuum, and therefore the suits that the actors are wearing must be advanced enough to withstand a vacuum.
the weights of the astronauts on the videos of moon walks are obviously reduced from terrestrial weight. i saw one fall over and he put his hand down and pushed the ground away and he pushed himself back up to standing position. the bulk of his body did not touch the ground.
it was not a slowed down film, because i saw the reaction time of the astronaut when he started to fall was very quick, despite the slowness of his fall.
so to duplicate this lightness of weight for a hoax would require either an immersion tank or an airplane that simulates zero or whatever value of gravity.
it is not an underwater shot and that is obvious because the dust kicked up could not fall through liquid in the same way as it fell in the video. also the lighting is exceptionally sharp. sharper than earthly lighting.
it could not be a plane diving because the surface area of the field of view in the "lunar walks" is vastly greater than the interior space of an airplane.
even if it was a giant airplane in a dive that simulated the gravity of the moon, then how did the dust fall in a vertical fashion? it would have fallen in a diagonal fashion for the clip.
and then to have a vacuum in the fuselage of the huge dive plane that houses even the lunar rover kicking up dust, and that dust settling as expected with precision is more complicated than actually going to the moon.
i believe for these and many more reasons that it actually happened.

I believe it happened also but if, as in "Jurassic Park", they could create believable dinosaurs along with real people actors it is probable anything could be visually simulated with computer graphic techniques. Unfortunately the technology of simulated reality has reached such a stage that no one can be absolutely sure of what is real anymore. Obama may be a technological construction since I live in Europe and never seen him in real life. And if people can believe in God with no live witnesses the world can become quite malleable.
there was not the technology to produce such graphics in 1969, and the videos are unchanged from the ones that were seen in 1969.

I believe you are probably right but the defense department had access to tremendous computing capabilities even then and the secrecy in that area has always been very deep. So paranoids like myself will always have doubts.
well why would you be paranoid about it? i do not care if it was true or not. i just believe it was true.
my life has no component in it based upon whether man landed on the moon or not.
i hope i do not sound rude. i do not mean to be.

No offense taken. I am 99 44/100% sure the moon landing was genuine. The paranoid remark was a joke against my ever suspicious attitudes and I always leave a small suspicion on anything I accept as reality. As a general attitude I have found that the most fertile grounds for new discoveries lays in what everybody takes for granted.
so that clears that up. i am off to bed.

I don't think the techniques would even have existed. Many of the very basic techniques of computer graphics which are pretty much necessary to do fast rendering weren't developed until the 70s as far as I know. There is absolutely no reason to suppose that even if the military had wired some hypothetical supercomputer that they could have known how to render a useful image with it. Any kind of thinking to the contrary would require a ridiculous leap of faith.

I wouldn't call the footage of the moon landing high tech. Lost in Space had better graphics than that footage.
