LOL hell yeah! That would really knock a hole in your voter base.
If we could do that and ban ban idiots from voting we'd be in high cotton forever!!
:D

Well, I thought that was what you people were trying to do with voter suppression. Except, you're also going after racial minorities, the elderly, and the young. Just a whole bunch of overly privileged white guys and their too-dumb-to-see their-hand-in-front-of-their-faces bigot and cracker henchmen would be left with a say.

And you have the gall to call us racist after spewing bull**** like that?!?!?

Frankly, yes.

Well I guess we know who the real racists are now, and they are so fanatical they can't even recognize the fact they are making racist comments.

To clarify my meaning; the only reason the left loves the downtrodden is so they’ll have someone to vote for them. I see it as a form of mutual slavery; "we'll keep sending the check and you stay poor and keep voting for us".
It's really repulsive. :x

And the only reason the fascists love the rich is that the rich give them masses of money to brainwash the poor into voting for them.

That's repulsive.

Just take a look at who would be most likely left out in the cold with laws demanding picture ID at the polls, or cutting back early voting. In Wisconsin, offices for the department of licensing in poorer areas, where said picture ID's could be purchased, suddenly are getting closed down. In the same state, free ID cards can be acquired - but Gov. Walker has told workers not to inform applicants of this fact. If you don't believe me, look it up.

What's really repulsive is your right wing brainwashing.
When have the right ever cared about poor people?

It’s something called voter fraud.
I thought Wisconsin was predominately democrat so maybe theryre just running out of taxpayer money to squander…..
Besides, if theyre on welfare they have all day to go get a picture ID.

The threat of voter fraud has been exaggerated.
Wisconsin in fact has a Republican governor, and a state legislature packed with hard right wingers - hardly Democratic anymore.
And another thing, poor people, or the disabled, often find getting transportation in order to get the picture ID can be difficult if not almost impossible.
Again, I will repeat, welfare and other social programs exist in order to feed and house people who otherwise would DIE! Republicans have stated time and time again that they could care less about the lives of the poor.

Wisconsin can’t make up its mind whether it’s conservative or liberal. Give it another few years and they’ll be back in bed with the left, then the right again, then the left. Who can keep up?

Sorry, but much of this thread looks more like a childish partisan food fight than anything rational.

Let's try at least having a few facts to chew on, for heaven's sake. Here are a few:

Voter fraud indeed has been largely exaggerated. So has the notion that illegal immigrants vote.

Voter fraud *has* occurred in my district, but it ain't the poor or illegals doing it. Last election we had someone in the community, on their own, do a little research and challenge some voters. It turns out there were voters in our poll book that were claiming unoccupied buildings as their residence, or claiming a business office as a residence. That is actual voter fraud, and it happens. There's a means to stop it. It happened. Big whoop. It's no cause for a big emergency and it wasn't mathematically significant.

On the other hand, some conservative asshat keeps challenging this one Latino voter who is here legally and a citizen. His English is almost non-existent, but I have seen his U.S. Passport. Repeatedly. I do not have the authority to allow him to vote the normal way. He has to jump through lots of hoops to make it count. Well, I'm tired of having to phone my husband at work to translate for this voter all those hoops he has to jump through just because someone with an extremist political bee in his behind badly needs an enema.

The area that votes in my precinct is one of the hugest immigrant populations in ATL. Yup, that would include illegal immigrants from south of the U.S. And yet, we have very few Latino voters. And the ones we have I know damned well were born here. My kids went to school with their kids, and that sort of thing.

And the fears on the other side about disenfranchising the poor and disadvantaged are not without merit. But I would ask you: Where the hell were YOU when all those homeless people were denied their vote and still are being denied it? Don't you realize that the vast majority of states require an actual legal residence and homeless people don't have those?

Heck you can't even get welfare if you are homeless! Because...you have to have an address, and duh homeless people don't have one?

Will demanding voter ID disenfranchise some voters. *POSSIBLY* Not necessarily so.

I'm a poll manager in the state of GA, hardly known as a liberal bastion, guys. We instituted a voter ID years ago. All your fears about voters being sent away turned out to be nothing. Because, even to my amazement, this state did a damned good job of instituting the requirements. Our state got community groups involved to bring the poor to get free state IDs. They put the word out about how to manage getting an ID in every way possible. And they phased it in slowly (what maybe 8 years??) And yes, the IDs are free, so lack of funds to purchase one is not an excuse. Please notice various rights groups complain about GA all the time about other things, but they have been silent on our voter ID laws. Because they work and are implemented fairly.

The notion that people on welfare have all the time in the world to go get an idea is a frelling joke. They don't have transportation in a lot of cases. You up for walking 50 miles? I'm not. That doesn't mean we can't require IDs though. We just have to act like real humans and find a way to make it possible for anyone to get an ID.

If this state can do it -- anyone can.

To people living outside the U.S.: Are you required to show some form of picture ID in order to vote? Any ID at all?

Politics, Philosophy, and Religion is a forum for those who like food fights.
We're not deciding the fate of nations here, just throwing food (or s**t) at each other.
Sometimes it's hard to tell, though...... :?
