The British, Dutch and Belgians also got beaten pretty badly due to the incredible luck of the Germans. The French actually had an advantage in numbers and equipment but unfortunately the Germans had better tactics and more bold generals such as Guderian on their side. Ironically Charles de Gaulle was one of the early proponents of Blitzkrieg style tactics that later influenced the Germans, but the French and British (and even American) high commands were still thinking in World War I terms, probably because they won and didn't have the same urge to evolve tactics. It isn't like the French were completely unprepared for such an invasion having anticipated it even before WWI. You can blame the actions of a few individuals for the Fall of France. Your seemingly bigoted argument that the French have some inherent genetic problem that prevents them from being effective soldiers is utterly absurd

Inuyasha is not kidding, he is simply wrong and grossly uninformed about French military history
I'm commenting partially on the idiocy of French Commanders, Napoleon was not of French ancestory he tended to learn from his mistakes fairly rapidly, the French usually have a tendency to make the same mistake over and over.
It was seen in the 100 year war, was also seen in World War I and World War II.
Oh, I get it it is a racist argument. The french people are genetically unable to win wars?
Just give it up. Your are making an ass of yourself.
The french have a huge military -not ret*d huge like ours- but inappropriately big.
They are also a Nuclear power so I am pretty sure if Lebanon were a department of France
Israel would not have gone to war with them.<-this is a period.
I get the impression Inuyasha is still on the Freedom Toast bandwagon in blatantly ignoring the vast amounts of free information available about French history and instead just making generic claims based on the (mostly) American meme of rubbing it in France's face that they needed to be rescued. Of course, it is perhaps not well remembered anymore but during both World Wars many American soldiers were known to chant "Lafayette!" when civilians decided to come out and celebrate their liberation. Lafayette of course being the famous Frenchman who played a part in the American Revolution. It was thus seen as a debt being paid, or a favor returned. It disgusts me that many Americans can insult French history when the truth is France is one of the best friends the United States has and is one of the best countries in the world, its military also one of the best with a long history of great élan. And of course being a nuclear power and a space power they are pretty well untouchable
Okay I'm going to break this down for people:
Hundred Years war, they continually made the same mistake over and over of charging into hailstorm of arrows from longbows. In one situation they got beat by an army that they outnumbered 10 to 1.

The French regained their country due to Joan of Arc. However up until that point, the people actually winning were the English, not the French.
The British, Dutch and Belgians also got beaten pretty badly due to the incredible luck of the Germans. The French actually had an advantage in numbers and equipment but unfortunately the Germans had better tactics and more bold generals such as Guderian on their side. Look at the invasion route the Germans took, if I recall correctly they followed the same route in World War II that they had in World War I.
So the French regained their country because a teenage French girl beat the English? What does it matter who had been winning up until that point, the English clearly were unable to maintain their conquests or the initiative, so ultimately they are the ones deserving of criticism. Especially since the coup de grâce came from a teenage girl who claimed to receive divine visions

I mentioned that as you see above... Everyone expected such a route, what they weren't expecting were tanks to be able to push quickly through the Ardennes. The British entry into World War I was actually based off of expectation of such an invasion route, as they declared war according to a treaty with Belgium that they had to guarantee their neutrality, thus a German invasion through Belgium was expected.
The Belgians also deserve some criticism for their efforts to hold the Germans back in WWII. They and the Netherlands didn't cooperate well with Britain and France. Britain and France wanted to move troops into Belgium which the Belgians didn't agree with. Additionally many of their fortifications were designed and built by German contractors who gladly handed the information over to the Wehrmacht. The battle of Fort Eben Emael is a classic example of the effectiveness of the German invasion of Belgium, having practiced on an identical fortification before dropping Fallschirmjäger on its roof, quickly forcing the surrender of several hundred Belgians with only a handful of paratroops. So its not as simple as you make it out to be there is a lot more to it

We generally don't make the exact same mistake over and over and over, in a military engagement like what was seen in the Hundred Years War.
The French kept getting pounding for making the same mistake over and over, and did the same thing again thinking it would have a different result.
Mister Inuyasha would do well to read about his history of WWII regarding a certain Jean de Lattre de Tassigny who my grandfather worked with, along with De Gaulle. I have a small comic made by the association he made post-war called Rhin et Danube, in which the exploits of the French prior to retaking the country AND after retaking it and going further into Germany, are depicted. (Said comic is even signed by the hand of his wife, adressed to me and my brother)
You are talking to the grandson of a World War II veteran whom fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was one of the people that told me that you could trust German civilians at the end of the war more than you could trust the French.
Also he would probably have said that the comic was a load of garbage (granted he had some negative things to say about the British (particularly their obsession with Tea not they ability to fight)).

I think the French have it in them to be a very magnanimous people when they want to be. After the war my grandfather ended up in France as a P.O.W. and did work there in agriculture and he had a lot of great things to say about how he and others were treated by the French. I've met a few people from France and I liked them, especially their manner of speaking French. Though even within France there are other dialects and related languages. Its unfortunate your grandfather had a bad experience with them that may have further shaped your low opinion of this country

Cool story Bro
does your dead grampa give you special powers from the grave?
Do you feel moral putting your bigoted views in his mouth?
My guess is that your grandpa is a German (american) himself (you went to Purdue and seem like a homebody).
And prolly a had views on the french biased by that fact.
anyway you I know a guy who once said something is not a great argument.

The Americans suffered many defeats in the French-Indian War, the Revolution and particularly the War of 1812. If the Brits were not tied down by Napoleon to the degree they were, they might have reconquered the Colonies. The U.S did not become a first class fighting force until after the Civil War.

So is your prejudice genetic or the product of narrow minded child-rearing?
There are enough negative stereotypes floating around in the world without your making further ingnorant contributions. Thank heavens that minds like yours don't represent the best and brightest in your nation.
