I've gotta think that the Papa John's guy holds average Americans in the same contempt that Romney does. Deep down, he doesn't believe the average person deserves healthcare. Seriously, charging his customers an extra fifteen cents is supposed to be break his company? I doubt he even believes that.

You did see, I assume, that the extra fifteen cents wasn't to provide health care to the employees. That's what it would cost in penalties not to provide health care. Providing health care was reported to be approximately eight times as much. That means that every pizza sold would cost about $1 more than what his competitors charge.

The result wouldn't be employees with health care -- it would be former employees because the competition would run the company out of business.

Pizza is one of those luxury items that almost everyone buys. I seriously doubt Papa John's would lose many customers, even if they had to pay a little more.

if papa johns did a 180 and decided to do the right thing by their employees [and give them decent medical coverage], i would do a 180 and try to buy pizzas from them. but why should i do business with an entity that sees people like me as "moochers"? why should i reward that kind of evil?

Their segment of the market is all price, people will go for the cheapest pie, and then b***h about the delivery charge and use it as an excuse to stiff the driver. John's an a**hole for a variety of reasons, but he's not wrong in thinking that an extra buck a pie might kill his business, and then where would his employees be?

I find it ironic that they are using a free-market method to protest -- a boycott.
Are people allowed to boycott Obamacare?

I'm sure that was the same argument people had for social security. But business managed to survive that, too.

We don't have any moral concept against unsolicited sales, anymore.

I don't hold it against anyone, if something falls in their lap.

But, taking by force is no different than a mugging.

If they didn't agree to the terms of employment, they should have moved on, not twisted the employer's arm.

I am not rich, but would like to be. I don't understand why noone takes the side of the corporation. It seems to me like noone especially wants to be successful, or doesn't put themselves in the shoes of a successful person.

Right now, I'm rubbing two of my fingers together, playing the world's tiniest violin just for the corporations.
The fact of the matter is, if corporations can make an extra buck by walking over the common people's rights, they'll do it. That's why they're so unsympathetic.
And I think like most people, I don't have to be rich to be happy. I just want to have a square deal, where I can live without much discomfort. Right now, the government has proven to be the friend of common people by providing a social safety net, civil rights legislation, and labor laws. The only threat of taking those away comes from reactionary elements in the government who would rather leave people at the mercy of big business.
And what if there is no where else for the workers to move on to? What if every business pays their workers starvation wages without benefits, and dangerous working conditions? Guess what - that was how things were like prior to the emergence of organized labor. And as businesses can negotiate better deals for themselves, why can't labor organizations? The fact of the matter is, America became truly the land with streets of gold with the rise of organized labor, which gave birth to a healthy, prosperous middle class. With corporatism, only the few can enjoy the wealth of the nation; but thanks to the labor movement, that wealth was shared by the many.

Maybe you guys should stop reacting emotionally and start trying to think things through and look at the facts of the situation.

Fact: The cost of Obamacare regardless of what Papa John's does, exceeds the Gross Profit of most of their individual restaurants if not all of them.

Fact: A business that operates at a loss is a business that is soon to go out of business.

You are saying that the CEO should operate his company at a loss and go out of business, rather than take the necessary steps to keep the company in business.

I'd say the greedy people are the people demanding Papa John's be punished, not the CEO. I'd say the Papa John's the company is one of the victims in all of this as is the CEO, as are the workers. Victims of regulatory insanity from a piece of legislation that was passed without anyone reading what was in it, and signed by a President that loves to use class warfare.

If you don't like what Papa John's is doing, then why the heck did you vote to continue the regulatory insanity from the Obama Administration by giving him four more years?

Again, I seem to recall people saying how social security would destroy business in America. As a matter of fact, it seems with Obamacare, businesses won't have to worry about providing medical coverage anymore. There are in fact many businessmen who feel that way. As for those that don't - well, I'm playing that tiny violin for them again.

People in congress actually read what was in the Social Security Legislation before they passed it, I also don't think the original legislation for Social Security was easily over 2000 pages long.

Fact of the matter is Social Security didn't have hundreds if not thousands of new regulations coming down the pike that small businesses had to worry about; regulations that are still being written...

Where my and my family's healthcare is concerned, I should hope the government is covering every base.

If it had such a noble intent they would have read through the bill instead of not bothering to read it. If it had that noble intent, it wouldn't have been put together behind closed doors, they wouldn't have pulled all kinds of shannigans to get it passed. Obamacare's real purpose was government taking over the healthcare system, it was about control and expanding government power Kraichgauer, and those that passed it, probably most of them couldn't care less about your family.

Again, if you needed something and got it, I'm not out to get you.

But, who is to say you have the right to demand free goods and services?

I have received presidential honors in human physiology, and am prone to say that an actual doctor has taken on considerably more responsibility than the medically indigent.

How is someone like that supposed to be rewarded for his extra initiative, such that he should feel motivated.

I think only people who think Obama is the devil are going to ascribe such a callous thing to him. Has it ever occurred to you that just maybe, Obama actually does care about people? After all, now people with preexisting conditions need not worry about being without medical coverage ever again - thanks to the President. People will not be financially wiped out by medical bills. Sounds pretty great to me.
And by the way, I think Obama cares a hell of a lot more about me and mine than Romney ever did.

I actually did have the notion that he cared about people but was simply not experienced enough to be President back in 2007, that changed when I found about his being okay with infants that are born alive after a botched abortion, being thrown in trash cans and left to die (I read the Illinois Born Alive legislation that he opposed, it was a stand alone bill and about 1 page total). When I found about that in 2007-2008, I pretty much reached the conclusion that he probably didn't care about people.

Romney, not Obama, was the first to introduce Socialist, European-style medicine.
