Wow.
Back in Mayberry when I was a girl, there was this thing called "human decency."
People who practiced it were called "nice people."
People who didn't were called "jerks."
Back in Mayberry, some of the kids who used to throw rocks at FreakGirl are now adults with problems of their own who wave to the woman that FreakGirl became and say, "How ya been??" I think they've forgotten about "back in the day." I bet they'd be ashamed if I reminded them...
...but I'm not going to. Because they'd be ashamed. I wave and say, "Oh, awright. You??"
What happened to this thing called "human decency??" Is it something only ignorant hillbillies practice??

not feeding the hungry or curing the sick IS the same as doing positive harm!
As long as one is not responsible for the hungry being hungry or the ill being ill one has not -done- any harm in not helping.
Apparently you do not know the difference between Something and Nothing.
Failure to act is not a harm unless one has a contractual obligation to perform said action. And do not bother me with nonsense about a Social Contract. I am not bound by it since I never signed it or took an oath to fulfill it. I am bound both by ethics and by law not to -commit- harm against my fellow human except as an act of self defense. I am under no more obligation to be helpful or benevolent to anyone but my dependent children. I do not owe your kids a damned thing. I am under legal constrain not to -do- harm to them but I am under no constraint to help them even if they need help.

I know perfectly well the difference between something and nothing, I just don't see the question as being relevant to this debate. As for not helping anyone then so be it, just so long as you realise that we are in no way obligated to help you or your family either. I just hope you and your family never find yourself at the mercy of someone with your own ideals, but hey thats karma isn't it.
Oh and I never said anything about social contracts - I don't believe in them. Having the ability to rise above your own selfishness should not be a legal or contractual obligation it should be something you do because you are a decent and worthwhile human being.
I'm not going to bother communicating any further with you because I see no intrinsic worth in debating morality with someone who has none.
