Anyone else a fan of Milo Yiannopoulos?
A broken clock is right twice a day. Any valid points he makes are overshadowed by his ugly bullying and name calling.
Oh, I don't particularly care what he's saying, it's the reaction to it that's valuable. People like me have been complaining about an authoritarian streak in the left, in academia in particular, for years, only to be pooh poohed by liberal partisans, where as it's pretty hard to deny literal riots trying to silence this guy.

I agree a lot of the left is overreacting to Trump and his supporters. Milo is an a**hole, but he is not the next Hitler. Same for Trump. If he pulls and Erdogan and forcibly shuts down CNN to replace it with his own propaganda the left can riot. I don't see anything like that happening in the US anytime soon.

Are Anarchists on the left? Or on some other axis altogether? I keep seeing "the left" being held responsible for the actions of a small minority, often by people who are outraged that "the right" is tarred for the doings of neo nazis and Christian Identity wingnuts. Seems like some people want to point out the particle in their neighbor's eye while ignoring the foreign object in their own, to borrow an image from the good book.
I do get what you are saying about the authoritarian left, though. Watching these people operate I begin to understand what it must have been like when a faction of the left was making excuses for Stalin back in the day.
I find it quite disgusting. A person who claims concern for the rights of others but would deprive them of basic liberties like the freedom of speech is a person who really stands for nothing at all.

George Orwell was so anti-left he dropped bombs like:

Just a reminder: under international law, an occupying power has no right of self-defense, and those who are occupied have the right and duty to liberate themselves by any means possible.
That's a good question, with an interesting answer. I'd say that while they may not technically be left, they are part of that coalition, as you'll often see anarchists and leftists protesting together or coordinating in some way, but you never see that happen with anarchists and and the right. You never saw the Black Bloc supporting the Tea party protests, for example, but they always seem to show up at the big liberal protests, especially if they think there might be an opportunity to get violent. I also have my own personal experience of being friends with a lot of leftwing activists who view anarchists as allies, if occasionally troublesome ones, rather than enemies or some neutral party.
It's kinda like how I, as a libertarian, am much more likely to be welcomed in a room full of conservatives than I am in a room full of liberals, even though I may share as many or more positions with the liberals as I do with the conservatives.
It's tit-for-tat, a lot of us who are on the right, or at least not on the left, are extremely frustrated by the constant stream of posts and articles about how authoritarian and fascist the right is, especially when the left has long harbored it's own authoritarian wing, so it's cathartic to call them out on the hypocrisy. Now, you can argue about who threw the first stone here, but I'd hope you can see why people such as myself see it as justified under the circumstances; it's not about holding the left responsible for the actions of their fringe so much as reminding them that they do in fact have such a fringe, that the right doesn't have a monopoly on illiberal tendencies.
I find it quite disgusting. A person who claims concern for the rights of others but would deprive them of basic liberties like the freedom of speech is a person who really stands for nothing at all.
Exactly. It may sound self serving coming from me, but I do hold the left to a higher standard here because they claim to be the party of tolerance, science, intellect, etc, so it's worse to me when they discard those principles for political expediency.

I can certainly see that. No one should be in any doubt about the oppressive tendencies of parts of the left.

At this point, I've only seen a few minutes of Milo on YouTube videos here and there. What's important to me is that his right to free speech should be protected. As for his violent critics, instead of rioting in the street, why can't they come up with a more productive or at least peaceful way of disagreeing, if they can't come up with any better ideas of their own worth communicating?
A quote by Isaac Asimov comes to mind: "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent."
Anyways, when the left riots against someone like this,
it makes me curious ...
and inspires me to learn more about Milo
and his message.
If there had been no protests against him, I probably wouldn't care enough to go out of my way to research him.
(I'd probably just go and watch cute cat videos on Facebook instead ...)
...
Due to all these protestors trying to silence him they've put him on the map for a lot of people that otherwise would have never heard of him.
Hey, I've been described that way!

He has a right to free speech, as do his critics.

This is actually quite fair, folks on both the left and right often forget that 'authoritarian vs. libertarian' is a separate axis from 'left vs. right'. The whole team mentality that creeps into political discussion seems to make people ignore the totalitarians on 'their side' while smearing the entire opposition as a combination of all of the most extreme parts of 'the other side'.
When one criticizes the right, it's fair to remember that the radical right and conservatives aren't the same, even if their membership and sympathies overlap. Conservatives don't hold responsibility for nationalists, white supremacists or right libertarians and sovereign citizens.
When one criticizes the left, it's fair to remember that the radical left and liberals/progressives/social democrats aren't the same, even if their membership and sympathies overlap. Liberals don't hold responsibility for left anarchists or Leninists or sovereign citizens.
As for who threw the first stone, who cares? They're dead.

Personally I think Milo is a tosser who uses the "free speech" card to say stuff that he KNOWS people will find offensive. He likes winding people up to the point of rioting and if he doesn't stop he'll get himself killed.
