Life is not a Charles Bronson movie. You survive by being smart. People usually don’t have time to get into fights. They have somewhere to go.

You don’t get into stupid arguments on the subway. You look like you know where you’re going at all times. You don’t wear expensive jewelry. You don’t go into dark alleys.

You, especially, stay away from places where drugs are sold openly. Not dealing with the criminal element is crucial. If you don’t seek drugs, you don’t usually come into contact with that “criminal element.”

New York is primarily populated by people who don’t want to get into stupid fights, and who are taking care of their families.

Life is not a Charles Bronson movie? It is according to some of the gun nuts I've chatted with. They make it sound like if they didn't have a gun they'd be riddled with bullets from armed thugs. Yet here you are, alive and well.

Gun nut here. :D
The biggest part of personal security to prevent being rolled is being aware of your surroundings and not appearing vulnerable. The gun is a last ditch option that is better to have and not need than to need and not have.

And anti gunners claim concealed carry would bring bloody street battles all over the nation and if we don’t ban guns you’ll be shot to death yet here we are alive and well.
I carry a gun for Incase something happens not thinking it for certain will. Same reason people have fire extinguishers, they don’t think a fire will happen and for most it won’t but it can happen to anyone no one is guaranteed to never have a fire or never be mugged or assaulted. Better to be prepared and not need it then need it and not be prepared.

If they were all like you we'd have nothing to worry about but they're not.

Pretty much all all though. 100million gun owners 320+ million guns. How many gun owners or guns have shot someone non defensively?

So you want self-defence? Here's a purely hypothetical question to the group.

If someone invented a non-lethal weapon that could render an attacker unconscious with the same speed, reliability and ease of use as a gun, would you use it?

I realise that no no real world stun gun is nearly that good but this is a hypothetical scenario.

I also realise such a weapon wouldn't replace guns for hobbiests any more than the electric car could replace the V8 for hotroders but I'm speaking of defencive use.

So would you?

I'm down for a Phaser.Set to stun.

I'd have to know more about:
- exactly how does it incapacitate
- reliability
- durability
- maximum range
- how many shots before the battery dies
- how long with the threat be incapacitated
- size and shape

^ If anything FPS video games may have prevented me from going off the deep and by providing a stress reliever. Shooting people and blowing them asunder with grenades in games has always had calming affect on me.
