It's funny when you mention "southerner" hating yankees we know it can't be a black southerner because black southerners left in droves to the north escape people like the southerner fellow you mention (for obvious reasons).
Always a good a idea to keep an open mind on these things...black southerners are proud of their roots but don't carry these ridiculous grudges, if anything they are grateful they didn't end up chattel forever.
Yes and when they went up north they discovered that white northerners are just as racist as white southerners, but of course they
pretend not to be.

And I wouldn't say these grudges are ridiculous. If yankees really wanted the country to heal and for us to get over the fact that we lost the Civil War they wouldn't be constantly talking s**t about us or rubbing our noses in the fact that we lost.
Yankees are a bunch of sore winners. Typical American attitude when it comes to winning any war.

I am not trying to pick a fight with you, but that is factually wrong. And as ass-backward as it can be. The average northern US White adult person stops thinking about the Civil War in the tenth grade. Its southerners who are obsessed with the Civil War. Not that there aren't understandable reasons for them to be obsessed with it. The war was fought in their backyards, and not on northern soil for the most part. Most Northern White families weren't even in the US until their ancestors came here from southern or eastern Europe through Ellis Island in the 1880's through 1920 era (after the civil war), while southerners (black and white) tends to have deeper roots in their current community that were effected by the Civil War. And so on. Now recently there is a trend towards northern millennials thinking about confederate statues. But if you're talking about my parents generation, or even about my boomer generation, you have it all backwards. Its the south that obsesses about their defeat. Folks in the Bronx, and Chicago, never think about the civil war..
Some do. My junior high teacher from New Jersey did.
