Oh.  I thought we were discussing only the Republicans currently in the Senate, not past presidents.

I'm watching the impeachment vote on BBC.
I suspect the Republicans will split into "moderate" - supporting the impeachment, trying to save the face of conservatism - and "hardcore" - still supporting Trump, trying to capitalize on the energy that led to the coup.
Ratio unknown, at least for me.
In any case, Trump is going to soon end his term in well-deserved disgrace.

In my opinion, the greater the disgrace, the better.

Why?
Trump's disgrace inspires contempt against him.
More contempt makes him less popular.
Less popularity leads to fewer votes for him.

I never want to see him run for, or be elected to public office ever again.

Neither do I.
That's why I hope enough Republicans will turn out "moderate" to set the tone of the party for some time.

In other words:
Let's not offend moderate Republicans because they are our most powerful allies in getting rid of Trump and dispersing his supporters.

Trump impeached!
https://www.news.com.au/world/north-ame ... 690dc06304

10 republicans including Dick Cheney's daughter have joined the democrats to have him impeached for a second time.

Pardoned and/or given amnesty and and honored with statues on Capitol Hill?
That was the Reconstruction, after they were shot, bludgeoned, bayoneted, scalped, starved, and blown to bits with cannon fire.
Exactly.
You really didn't have a major war on your ground for quite a long time, did you?
Not since the Civil War.
Lucky you.  I recommend keeping it that way, if possible.
Tell that to the Republicans, to the MAGA crowd, and to Donald J. Trump.
Based on BBC news, quite a lot of Republicans are turning their backs at Trump after the last affairs.
Too little, too late, and too much insincere virtue-signaling.

We have a winner

What is it with:

• Compulsory television taxation in the U.K.?
• Deference to the wealthy and titled in the U.K.?
• Excessive surveillance in the U.K.?
• Football hooligans in the U.K.?
• Lack of adequate orthodontia in the U.K.?
• Obsession with tabloids in the U.K.?
• The absurd laws in the U.K.?
• The high cost of food in the U.K.?
• The near-constant rain in the U.K.?
• The ubiquitous queuing-up in the U.K.?

Oh, and by-the-way, the U.K. was the first to use the fully automatic Maxim Portable Machine-Gun in 1885.

From the perspective of people who live in different countries outside the US, We all collectively roll out eyes when guns are picked up the US to settle disputes.

A lot of those points apply to many developed countries.

Same same here across the hedge in Canada.

I think it has a lot to do with politicizing gun rights. The dead guys that wrote their constitution were concerned about the potential for a tyrannical government, thanks to the example they had from England at the time. So, they put it in writing that Americans were allowed to possess guns just in case they needed to fend off government forces. Ever since then every political party and a bunch of racist gun clubs have latched into those words and have gotten Americans all wound up about their gun rights so that they support their local guns & ammo makers - can’t Only support the big boys of the military industrial complex via taxation, gotta promote the sales of small arms, too! And now here we are with 120.5 guns per 100 residents in the USA.

Also, due to America’s obesity rate it is highly likely that the average American penis is now well below the global average length of 5.5” and it only costs a couple hundred bucks to holster a compensator to one’s waist! :(

Between the guns and the big-ass pickup trucks, I have to agree.
