Based on the accounts of ER physicians on YouTube, vaccinated people with Omicron infection are generally sent home from the ER; whereas unvaccinated people are generally admitted.

Hospitalization rate of increase is far below Omicron rate of increase. If NYC had the hospitalization rate of the Delta Variant, we would be in big trouble.

70% of polio infections were asymtomatic. 25% were mild, with few complications. Otherwise, most of the populace would have walked with a visible limp, at least. (Per Wikipedia article, which cites pertinent , peer-reviewed journal articles or government statistics).

Perhaps the obese should start losing some weight if we're serious about this virus. Its no good weighing 25 stone and relying on the vaccine.

I was at a supermarket yesterday and this overweight woman was complaining about a young healthy woman walking past without a mask on. Apparently she was "going to cost the NHS millions". I have the feeling she's wrong.

It's all good and well having the vaccine to protect the health services but it's always struck me as unusual that other massive drains on hospital resources were never mentioned during this pandemic. Not drinking to much, not smoking, stop doing drugs, put your seat belt on, stop gaining weight....all combined will probably render the vaccine moot for younger folks.

It's like we've developed covid tunnel vision and hospital resource drain hypocrisy all of a sudden.

Having no choice but to vaccinate is like having no choice of aborting a child.
Conspiracy theorists will use any irrelevant scare tactic to manipulate people into doing what you want. Hence, your opinions are irrelevant.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but this has been bugging me for a while now: if people are getting sent home from the ER after showing symptoms and getting vaxxed, exactly why are they going to the ER?

I know how this sounds, and I’m genuinely sorry, it’s just how I feel about it. I regularly get some kind of respiratory problem 5 or more times every year. We just call it a “cold.” Sometimes it’s terrifically severe, so maybe I’m getting flu sometimes. And highly doubt that I’ve actually avoided COVID because those symptoms and worse are what I’ve dealt with multiple times a year since, like, kindergarten, and given my history I’d never know the difference.

And yeah, I know, I know, I don’t speak for everyone out there. Are people going to the emergency room with the sniffles and getting positive tests back? Is that what’s happening? I’m not saying there’s some conspiracy and “they”’re fabricating test results. I guess I’m just incredulous that people go to the hospital when a problem is not a problem. Not trying to debate anything or prove a point, just curious.

People might go to hospitals because they are cautious. Or because they feel really lousy and feel like they should visit an ER.

The doctors have to determine who is seriously ill enough to be admitted to hospitals.

Basically, if someone is found to have pneumonia, that someone is admitted. If “only” flu-like symptoms, they are sent home.

What if the anti-vaxxers are at least partially right and the vaccine has long term side effects? Possible long term side effects that were modelled and actually appeared in some of the early animal trials include prion diseases like Alzheimer's and CJD. Because the vaxxed chose to get the vaccine, should we deny them treatment if they get those illnesses years down the line? Should we deny treatment to those young men keeling over with myocarditis or other cardiovascular disorders? That's even a side effect listed on the pamphlet before you get your shot. Their choice, own the consequences I guess?

A very good post & points stated.

In a nutshell, pro-vaxxers like to focus on all of the weaknesses of anti-vaxxers, but in my view anyway, their 'pro' is actually 'anti' in terms of science.

So they are anti-vaxxers because they think vaccines are okay in their current form - when they are not..

There are GMO, plant-based vaccines on the horizon, which seem like a better idea to me.

There's really no end to the rabbit hole that you go down when you take away another persons choice and try to impose medical mandates on people.

What's sad, and very dangerous, is that there is no longer any middle ground surrounding the vaccination discussion. You either buy the official narrative 100%, or you're a crazy anti-vaxxer.

Exactly.

Polarisation is a key manipulation tactic by those that control society to play people off against one another, thus, allowing them to remain in control by distracting everyone with endless tangents of thought.

The vaccine has become just as polarised as western politics. I went to a local pub today. The woman behind the bar was shouting at everyone to wear a mask (but only while walking to the toilets) but somehow signing your name and phone number with the same pen that everyone has to use is OK along with not wearing masks at your table......somehow.

The vaccine is open for debate now. 3 doses in less than a year and there are still lockdowns to an extent. It's about time people debate the effectiveness of them yet alone the safety of them (though I personally believe them to be safe....just utter s**t)

How many people is that single pen gonna nail too? So many variables it's not even worth thinking about yet alone trying to dodge them all.

I understand. I’m a product of my upbringing, I guess. You know, the old-timer, “back in my day we didn’t have an ER. If your foot got chopped off, you’d soak the stump in kerosene, cover it with a handkerchief, tie bailing twine around it to stop the bleeding, and then walk through the snow, uphill, BOTH WAYS to see if the doctor could do anything to help you. Sometimes he’d even stitch your foot back on for you and you hope for the best” kind of mentality.

So yeah, “back in my day” we didn’t go to the doctor for the sniffles. My grandparents would quarantine themselves any time they got flu. You’d know because if you went to visit, my grandfather would yell through the door that he couldn’t let you in, and it was exactly because HIS parents lived through the Spanish Flu pandemic. He was raised with this idea that it’s irresponsible to put people in danger when you KNOW you have a potentially deadly, highly contagious illness.

And that’s kinda where I am. I’m still in awe of how crazy this virus has made people, and after all that’s happened I struggle to take it seriously. I know people are dying from it. I took a part time job this year after the position had been vacated by someone who died from COVID. So, yeah, I know it’s real. But I’m still struggling with the idea that people are flooding the hospitals but don’t have a real need to be there. I know someone who is fighting cancer right now who needed emergency treatment for a complication. He was in ER for 51 hours before they were able to move him. It’s still not real to me yet that in recent weeks COVID has pushed more people than ever into hospital rooms. But it’s also somewhat encouraging that at least here in the US if people aren’t going to get the vaccine they at least have the freedom to move and allow natural immunity set in.

I’m already hearing that Omicron is much less severe than Delta. If that’s the case and more people get it at a faster rate, it’s not unlike getting vaccinated. I’m convinced EVERYONE in the US will have been infected at some point.

It was never about wanting to limit freedom. The issue is, there's a need to protect those who are most at risk, and who are, for the most part, doing their part to ensure we get through this terrible pandemic. Rendering doctors and nurses unable to work is not ideal for a variety of reasons, but I sure as heck wouldn't want an unvaccinated medical professional attending to me or anyone I know. As for people in government positions, particularly service jobs, well, I want to be able to do what I need to do without risk of exposure to a virus I've done my part to try and avoid.

The bottom line is, while under normal circumstances I accept the notion of "my body, my rules", I can only get behind it when the individual or individuals in question are the only ones being affected. I'm indifferent to the war on drugs for example, because if people want to do that to themselves, they can go right ahead. But, if someone objecting to taking a vaccine for their own self-serving reasons puts others at risks, I'm sorry but it's not just about their freedom anymore.

I don't actually think a gun needs to be pointed at people's heads to force them to take something they don't want, and I actually don't have an issue with people who don't get vaccinated but accept that they should just keep to themselves and only go out for essential reasons. It's the people who want to have their cake and eat it too that I have a problem with. They're the reason we're still in this mess.

But it's also not the same, either, as I've read that unvaccinated people have a 10x higher rate of reinfection than vaccinated. Even if people have had some strain of covid or another, it's still ideal for them to get vaccinated against it in order to reduce their chances of infection And/Or severe symptoms.

That's news to me. If unvaccinated people are 10X more likely to be infected and it's still rampant in the UK with a huge percentage here vaccinated........holy crap.

I've heard that's not the case though.

The overall statistics of both hospital beds being filled by Covid patients, plus the stats on Covid admissions and mortality rate versus the flu, isn't even a big issue from a scientific perspective.

The focus on Covid is a rabbit hole of fear & propaganda.

Literally, people being programmed & controlled for the sake of vaccine manufacturer profits and the companies associated with them. For no other purpose.

Hundreds of millions of people, stupified & brainwashed for no other reason than the profit of a capitalist few.

Umm, except the mortality rates have been many times that of the flu, soooo, apples to oranges and that's why it's been a big deal.

One factor in that perception, is that hospitals are admitting patients with the flu, testing them with Covid PCR tests that are not really fit for purpose in a practical sense (although very complex in technology), and allowing them to mix with people who actually have Covid.

So even when they don't have Covid to begin with, it is now normal hospital practice in my country at least to let them catch Covid, without making sure they actually had Covid in the first place.

Life is cheap for the organisations that run hospitals, unfortunately.
