Bland-Very cute, TheArtoftheBruise. Maybe you haven't observed that you can put your hands over your eyes, and then....guess what....you can remove them from your eyes and place them over your ears! You see, they're very versatile! (Smart aleck!)

I'm a Shi'ite Muslim, and find that the Sunni Wahhabi minority have indeed tarnished the name of Islam abroad and reduced Muslims to a bunch of people wearing silly dresses, armed to the nines, screaming 'God is great' and committing various unpardonable sins like the recent spate of beheadings and other embarrassing incidents.

We as Shi'ite Muslims have historically been persecuted by the majority and put a lot of focus into philosophy and higher learning. I hope I don't sound too like a preacher for my own good. :)

No offence to anyone but I think that the number of people abandoning any form of organised religion has increased to a very large extent. The reasons may range from restrictions which religion traditionally places on people, like alcohol as far as Islam is concerned; to not believing that there is a higher power. Belief in the unseen is theoretically the hardest part of any monotheistic religion.

Un-Orthodox/Non-Denominational Christian- it goes like this. I believe in the overall message of what Christians should be. Decent people. That's it. I don't agree with the whole "Convert the sinners" stuff; and I have reasons. In the Bible, it is stated, quite clearly, that God does not want us to kill, or go to war (which sickens me every time I heard Bush say God is with us in this war; in my opinion, God is aiming a stone at us as we speak); but most fo the worlds greatests wars have been done in the name of religion (World War I began with the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand, who was the leader of a country that was persecuting the muslim (I THINK) Serbs), World war II involved and started by Hitler's persecution of the Jews (although less focus on religion, but more on the Jews were the business leaders and the best scapegoats at the time; but one can claim that Nazism was aform of religious belief, maybe...); and let's not forget the Crusades, in which billions (i think) died, including thousands of children (the Children's Crusade, the greatest blunder in English history) was started as England's attempt to liberate Jerusalem from the hands of the "evil Muslims" (no offense, referencing historical context).

And, if I remember, didn't Jesus say something about "Peace on Earth, and Goodwill towards men"? (I can't remember)

I have chosen to forgoe any religious teaching that I think would instigate violence. I believe in only the following parts of the Bible: The Ten Commandments, and all of the peace on earth stuff.

That was the angels that came to the shepherds when Jesus was born.

But like I said before (maybe in this thread, perhaps in another- I can't rememeber), so many "Christians" don't follow Christianity as it was meant to be followed. Many get caught up in either "going through the motions" and become very legalistic like the Pharisees or they claim to be Christian but do the exact opposite of what Christ would do. It's sad because Christians are called to be "little Christs", which means that we (any Christians) are supposed to act like Christ would.

I'm not trying to judge people's religious beliefs here. What goes on in their personal lives is between that person and God, but we'll all have to answer to Him someday. And to some, He will demand that they leave and tell them that He never knew them.

Ah, thank you for the correction. I was at least close :) . And, I think that was one of Jesus's messages anyway.

But Peter, if that is you in your avatar, you definitely don't look like the athiest you describe. You look hot enough to be in an action movie. *bites you*

Sorry, when i see men i genuinely find very attractive, I have to hit on them.

Ow!

And yes, it is indeed me in the av. I don't have the big or the fat, but my personal odour can be pretty strong if it's hot and I haven't showered that day. What sort of action movie should I be in?

(Hair looks a bit nasty there, but it's just wet; it takes hours to dry.)

I don't believe in God. I don't disbelieve in God. I'm not searching for God. I have enough to think about just getting by, without worrying about a God. :)

I was raised Episcopal, and was very active for decades, but that was mostly so I could sing in the choir :)

I believe in "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself" and "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you".

(There are seven "I"'s in the above post. Guess that probably says where my rudimentary belief system is)

I'm a moderately ecumenical Buddhist heathen with an agnostic and skeptical streak.

My family allegiance is to the Aesir and Vanir (the Norse gods), but fantastic beings from all traditions are welcome at my parties. And, when it comes down to it, I really don't care if they're gods or not, as long as they don't go around smiting the other guests.

"Created the universe? Oh, that's nice. Here, you carry out the chip dip and I'll carry the beer."

I'm a Christian if anyone hadn't noticed yet. I'm strongly believe everything about it and nothing anyone will say about other religions will never get me to change the way I believe. I piety those who aren't and you know what I'm talking about. There I had my two cents wroth. I believe all other so called religions are cults. No offense to anyone just speaking my mind.
