I am currently working as a sous chef at a major resort here in Las Vegas. If thats a "low brow" job so be it. I take pride in my work and emphasize above all else the personal responsibilities of hygiene and sanitation.

Feel free to say that I am being stereo-typical or speaking in generalities. You would be right. Say that there are "AS MANY" Asian, African American, or Anglo chefs who also commonly display horrible downright disgusting habits in the kitchen. You would be wrong.

It doesnt matter how many times I catch Pablo with his hands in his pants. We plain and simply will not fire him because we can afford to keep him Esteban and Guillermo around for the same price it would cost us to bring one qualified chef. These guys are legal to work in the states, or I would have called INS long ago.

Your logic is flawed. You are getting Mexicans who obviously are being payed less than the norm. This will attract the bottom of the barrel. Get a white person who is happy being payed very little, and they will be of the same quality. I have been around just as many white people who do not take the time to shower every day, and its simply because of the type of people construction jobs, or any other low paying job, attract.

Also, your generalization causes people like me to be looked down upon, to be judged simply on the color of my skin. You can generalize all you want about the color of the skin, but its usually based more on the social class of the person.

Right or wrong, I do not judge people by who they are, but rather what they do. It has been my experience, having worked in the industry for a long time, that Latino workers are more careless and generally "dirtier" than other workers. It is my honest opinion having dealt with them daily and I believe the reason they are this way has far less to do with their social class and much more to do with their cultural norm.

The moment you generalize ,you open yourself up for generalizations as well. The issue is much more complex than you put it, and I don't have time to get into the various factors which go into the issue.

Another "truism"..

The more Latinos there are in a kitchen,
the higher the incedence of theft.

Im sure you will again attribute this to
social class, but we both know it is a direct result
of the "take take take" mentality of those who are
only in this country to contribute nothing as they
rape the system.

What is their backround? Social class? Income? There are so many more factors, and you simply chalking it up to culture simplifies the situation to something that is just not true. I put forth my hypothesis of the meme involving work ethic, which relies on the reproductive structure of the meme. I doubt there is a "let's be dirty" meme, as its not something that is seriously said over and over.

I've noticed that a lot of hispanic people have a much higher work ethic that many native southerners. Explain to me how they contribute nothing, and 'rape the system', when they cannot recieve support from 'the system' due to the fact that a lot of them lack the proper documentation that allows the eligability to benefit from 'the system'?

Like it or not there is a certain degree of truth to
all stereotypical generalities or they would not exist.

I speak from my own personal experiences, which
I admit might be limited, but over time tend to vary little.

That is your opinion and it is not one we share. It is my opinion that Americans do better quality work because they take pride in it. If you want a job done cheap hire a Mexican. If you want it done well hire an American.

Mexicans (Mexican nationals) do not pay taxes but recieve benefits in the form of healthcare, welfare, housing, education, foodstamps ect. ect. and all without the true legal documentation you think is so necessary. Often all they need is one dependent child born in the United States. Forged or fraudulent documents are also common.

When we talk of making Mexico a state we should also consider the influence its culture will have on our own. Although Mexicans will deny it, America does indeed have a unique and proud culture. It is not one based on unconditional respect for those different than ourselves, but one where we highly regard anyone who is driven to better themself and the world around them by taking pride in their work and maintaining a high level of excellence and self reliance. We chip away at this when we introduce a culture of scavengers who care nothing for anyone or anything outside what they consider familiar. It is a culture that is content to get by the easiest way possible, moraly irresponsible, and often dependant on the charity of a system it can endlessly exploit to supplement its minimum wage earners.

Im not even sure if I buy all that

but

I only know what I am exposed to or what I see with my own eyes. If I honestly believed that illegal aliens were more excited about becoming patriotic Americans, than dual citizens, I may feel different. I dont know how many generations it will take them to assimilate but it doesnt seem to be happening. If anything the reverse is taking place. My country is slowly dieing, in part due to the parasitic infestation of its southern neighbor.

Mexico also has a unique and proud culture, much as many Americans will deny it. We also took half of their country away from them in the 1840's. Furthermore, As far as the bit about scavangers is concerned, read this for more info. I have never been hit up for spare change by a Mexican, though I get hit up for spare change all of the time.

I find it ironically hypocritical that many people who are opposed to illegal immigration are also the same people who have no problem paying the lowest price possible for labor, and then bitching about the fact that only undocumented labor applies for the positions offered, as many US citizens refuse to work for such low wages. --How's that for a culture of scavengers?

Also, just because you've been around some pretty scummy people from Mexico doesn't mean that nearly everybody else from that country from that country is the same. Although I've never been there, I imagine that welfare offices are pretty much devoid of undocumented Mexicans and Central Americans, though you will find a lot of US Citzens there precisely because of the fact that would not consider taking jobs that a lot of Mexicans take.

FWIW, many of the same tings that are said about Hispanics today were the same things said about the Irish, Chinese, Italians,French Canadians, Japanese, Polish, Jewish, and Scandinavian immigrants in the past.

Normally I would take garbage like this and
blast every single sentence fragment into a
thousand pieces, but I will let this one stand
as is and represent the confusion of
a troubled mind.

you can do better than this

How exactly is it parasitical to work hard for very low wages?
First World people often seem to think menial labour can magically do itself. Something from a UK program sums it up: an able-bodied young guy living on benefits was asked why he didn't take one of the many jobs available in the local farming sector - he answered that he didn't want to because the workplace would be full of foreigners.
Let's not forget that Mexican economic policy since the 1980's has been largely dictated by the US and US-controlled institutions (it as under US-trained economists that it crashed in 1994), that the Mexican agricultural sector collapsed (with massive migration to the cities and the US as a result) partly due to the impossibility of competing with massively-subsidised US agribusiness, etc.

One of the blessings of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was that wages would eventually be similar between the USA, Canada and Mexico. Mexicans would have little economic incentive to migrate Northward, if they could find jobs that would pay just as well (or better) in Mexico. And, maybe some day the Canadians will be nice enough to send some jobs our way.

Members of the United Auto Workers (UAW) union in the USA used to have something of a worker's paradise, where their employers (the US auto industry) would take care of them for the rest of their lives. Generous health insurance benefits to auto workers and retirees add about $1,000 to the cost of each automobile produced in the USA. UAW members used to have things better than even government employees. The situation amounted absolutely to corporate Socialism.

Now, fortunately, a lot of the assembly work has gone to Mexico. Some auto manufacturers (from Japan, etc) have opened non-union production plants in the USA. Thus, socialism is finally being defeated.

So, it probably doesn't really matter if the USA and Mexico eventually form one country--so long as we are able to export jobs to Mexico, and keep workers from living too richly in the USA.
