The imaginative capabilities of a machine can only go so far, if at all. Every response has to be programmed. It's a machine. Maybe you've been watching too much Sci-Fi and your imagination is over-active. Sounds like troll to me.

If you had taken a moment to look at his profile and personal website, you would have found him to be quite the aspiring mathematician with a strong interest in artifical intelligence. Therefore...his future career choices will most likely fit into the useful, constructive, and meaningful. Even if he decides to teach...this would also apply.

I rather enjoy seeing youth be so brash, regardless of if I agree. Young minds with high goals, firm points of view, and a 'life sucks then you die' attitude. Makes me wish I was twenty again...

That just made me look at your profile - Not impressed.

Facts and logic don't impress you at all, so I'm not surprised

You clearly don't know what you're talking about.

*lol*

...yeah, I'm now dead sure you don't have any training in computer science or mathematics.

Incidentally, the document I quoted was from the US Department of Defense's advanced research agency, DARPA, the same people who conceived the Internet.

Yeah, I'm sure you know artificial intelligence better than they do.

I don't read or watch much fiction, but to be fair, Rossum's Universal Robots, I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, etc. had a strong influence on me.

Regardless, you're in denial, but that's acceptable, because denial is a natural part of grief.

The limitations of robotics are widely recognized.

I have a tiny bit of familiarity with the field too, and your claims sound frankly uninformed and out-dated.

Ohh is this the clash between intellectual vs. creative artist?

If you have that evidence, then show your data.

Hi, welcome to Western society; the burden of proof is on you. If you can't find a single reputable scholar, researcher or inventor who still seriously doubts that general artificial intelligence is possible (especially when very many believe it is not only possible but near), then I don't have to entertain your claim.

In short, I don't have to prove your own points for you. That's your job.

I don't impress you.

However, I have a pretty good chance of winning a DoD scholarship if I really try. :D

Your mindset is hopelessly stuck in the late forties.

I never said "general artificial intelligence" isn't possible. You have simply taken it to the extreme and in that case, the burden of proof is on you.

What extreme?

Hooking them up to weapons won't be too hard.

I think, when dealing with the uninitiated, it would be better to ask for more than a single qualified individual. There are oftentimes wack-jobs (I'm sure there's just *someone* out there with credentials who still entertains the belief that Goedel's Incompleteness Theorems refute the possibility of Strong-AI)

I'm not sure I believe in strong AI either, and expert opinion is widely divided on this matter.

But that's not the point. Weak AI can still do awesome and horrible things.
