(unabashed) lefty-but-not socialist, and i admit this article has some biases. still: Zbiegnew Brzinski admitted that the US was backing the taliban long before the conflagration with the former Soviet Union. also: both Clinton and Bush refused to put Afghanistan on the list of countries harboring terrorists (despite the presence of Bin Laden.) and why?


my belief: the stated reasons for being in Afghanistan and the actual ones may not be so concordant. it's true: Al-Qaeda is there. it's true: the Taliban is active (see history of US involvement with them.) in truth, the war is an extension of an old policy, and "fighting terrorism" is really not the main objective.

what to do about any of this?
