...don't you just love it?

The Guardian

Anyone else like to claim young men and women from NATO countries are fighting to bring democracy and freedom to the Middle East or can we put that bit of propaganda aside now?

It looks like men being able to demand sexual favors from their wives will be a relief to the female camels there. :P

Seriously though, Afghanistan is not ready for democracy, their culture is still stuck in the middle ages. We are just there to babysit them so that they can't launch anymore terrorist attacks.

it's more like Afghanistan isn't actually a country, per se, as a collection of various peoples speaking 5 different languages. Democracy, maybe eventually, unified, not likely...;)

As if anyone expected some good to come out of our dealings in the middle east.

....okay, I guess a few people did but those people are lazy, ignorant saps who spend too little time gaining the necessary information regarding our country's history with foreign policy abroad.

The occupation of Afganistan is a criminal act. Our collective governments are supporting a regime that promotes extreme misogyny and the election of drug dealing warlords. Neither religion or capitalism is the answer to the worlds problems

It has to do with a natural gas pipeline. Obviously all this talk of democracy is to divert attention from real motives. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans-Afghanistan_Pipeline

the bourgeois democracy the west is trying to impose in Afghanistan has the declaration of human rights as one of its most important philosophico-legal pillars - without that basic element your democracy is not up to scratch, to put it mildly to an absurd degree. I stand for a very different form of democracy, but that certainly does not include allowing women to be raped.
