Hi all,

I practice ritual Magick (it's a legit religious practice - so respect) and I would love to join a group such as Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, the O.T.O., Thelemic Order, or something of the sort - so that I can be with others of like mind. I've been in Wiccan / Pagan covens before and had no problem with it - but I'm looking for something to fit my new spiritual path.

I was wondering if they would have a problem with me being autistic, as many of them require 'mental soundness' and my condition is not immediately apparent (I'm employed, in a relationship, wear normal preppy clothes), but people realize over time that 'there's something wrong with that person'. The impression I got from the local O.T.O. members is a bit more 'coldness' or what I interpret as 'doucheness' than what I got from Wicca - Wiccans were completely friendly, accepting, and supportive of we who have disabilities. Since I don't know any occult lodge members very well, I don't really know how to broach the topic.

I've also heard some 'weird' stuff about the O.T.O. in particular - that they're invite-only, notoriously cliquish, very exclusionary. As a supporter of disability and other rights - I strongly disagree with any form of exclusionary behavior.

So do I:

1. Stick with folks I know are true Brothers and Sisters of an allied path, but who are more stuck on the level of worshipping gods than on accomplishing the Great Work

2. Attempt to join groups that would probably exclude me for who and what I am, or if I do become a member not behave in a way I would consider 'brotherly', but which will help me greatly in terms of my spiritual / emotional / psychological goals

If anyone has experience with this, please message me.

Thanks.

well, there's got to be a way to research it. Know everything you can before you go in. If it works for you, well, it's a free country.

Particularly the works of Peter Carroll (he separated from the IOT later and his work has been much better than what the IOT has done since)

Also, I'd recommend tempering it with some lit from Robert Anton Wilson (like Prometheus Rising) and Discordianism literature (Principia Discordia)

The State of Israel is a nation recognized by most other nations and a member of the U.N. Where is the myth?

And the existence of the Jewish people is a fact.

The myth being that of the original Zionist intention of a peaceful, intellectual socialist society. All that remains there now is a culture of paranoia that very nearly got Avigdor Lieberman, an extremist nationalist who is on the level of Adolf Hitler, elected Prime Minister. It's bad enough that Binyamin Nincompoop won again after being away for not long enough from the office.

Theodore Herzl wanted to set up a bourgoise state for Jews to live in safely.

It did not work out that way.

The Kibutz Movement ran of steam nearly thirty years ago. Israel is a normal state in most respects, except it is surrounded by enemies who wish to destroy it.

It has its laws, its courts, its language and its currency. It is a real live state.

This made me giggle out loud...you crack me up. To the op, hey, I am an adult and I have spent a lifetime filling my head with crap. I know it is crap and easily see it for the garbage it is. I know it is a huge waste of time, but it hurts no one and I really do enjoy garbage. :D

Rejoice then, if it is harmless. If you are beyond childhood, then why do you indulge in childish thinking?

Doesn't sound like living safely. Ever heard of checking out the real estate before buying? Sounds like people are more interested in following the geography of a book of myths rather than simply establishing such a state in a much more safe area.

How should I know why? My interests are what they are and I enjoy them. Some might not even consider them to be crap, but I tend to view most things as crap unless they directly apply to my own personal priorties. *shrugs*

Better to just write some angry black metal tunes about the occult than get yourself wrapped up in it; otherwise you've gotta start figuring out who you can sucker into checking your mail.

Why wouldn't someone be able to check their mail?

Been there done that and got the tee shirt.
I speak as an Adeptus Major Rosicrucian, a Master Mason, a Qualified Scientologist, an initiated Hare Krishna and a bunch of other things.

Here is the sad truth. None of them know the "meaning of life" any more than you do now.
