It is reminiscent of a fungal infection.

Too bad good sense and attention to facts did not spread as readily.

You probably mean "does not spread".

Did not and does not spread as rapidly. Religion is a manifestation of the darkness within us. I think mankind suffers from some kind of genetic defect. That is the basis of Original Sin. If God made man in His own image, then either God is evil or God is incompetent.

If He'd only been a good deal more incompetent than evil we might have done better.

The human race is smart enough to be a danger to itself and everything around it. We are the smartest, baddest primates in The Monkey House.

Hmmm..... let me guess: To you, the 'good sense and attention to facts ' is the Bible and you think that most humans are stupid because they don't follow Judaism.

Not only humans kill each others for territories and resources , most species do that , this is called fighting for survival.

I think good sense is more like the Standard Model of Fields and Particles. As to being Jewish, that is a family tradition. I do not recommend it for non-Jews.

The important thing is to be righteous, whether one is Jewish or not.

My favorite kind of people are fair minded, decent pagans who respect human life, property and privacy and do not have mean inclinations. I prefer the company of good neighbors and people who have good manners.

not just primates, we tend to beat out all forms of animals, and not far off from beating all other natural forces as well, animals in general can't even slow us down

On a one to one with a shark or a tiger I'd know where to place my bet.

A clever human would not go one to one with a shark. And the tigers are on their way to extinction (by humans). Which is a shame, since tigers are beautiful animals. We can lick any animal in the house and we have already rendered several species of animal extinct. Where are the woolly mammoths?

Most of them died at the end of the last ice age. A few groups held on in a few places a little long, probably because of northern location/non human inhabitance. Tuberculosis is suspected of contributing to extinction.

We were still on a par with animals then, and moral outrage against the culling of the mammoths and mastodons is silly.

Of course it is silly. If it looks good enough to eat, kill it, cook it and eat it.

Probably the worst thing that happened to certain (no extinct) species of animals is the taming of fire. Now we can cook what we kill and enjoy it all the more.

Aside from tenderizing meat cooking kills a lot of pathogens and parasites. Hot drinks make water safer.
