Anyone else reminded of this movie with regard to two of the "Grand Dons" of this forum? I am bemused at the symbiotic relationship, and usually restrain myself from jumping into the black hole that this forum tends to be.

For what it's worth, I like you both, and hopefully I can laugh with you, rather than at you. Also, I'm well aware that my day IS coming, sooner than I think.

Those guys are the whole reason I got sucked into this forum. I enjoy reading their posts very much and appreciate hearing the wisdom of our elders. I almost always agree with one and usually not the other, but the grumpier of the two is exactly how my husband will be in about 20 years or so. I knew this way back when, but for some strange reason, I still said "yes." He's also looking forward to the day I become a grumpy old broad. I'm more than halfway there already :) .

I always take the time whenever I encounter them. There are three.

I take it I am in the triumvirate. I don't know when I graduated from being a grumpy young man to a grumpy old one. I just hope I am a bit cleverer and more fun.

How to be a grumpy old man in one easy lesson:

(1) Start by being a trusting child and believe in Santa and the Tooth Fairy.
Sing dumb songs about everyone in the world holding hands and being friends.

(2) Go to high school and university. Now you understand that there are bad things in the world but if you protest and chant stupid demands you can save the whales, bring about world peace and universal brotherhood.

(3) Graduate and realize that you have to get a haircut and suck up to the "establishment" to get a job.

(4) Gradually grow older seeing greedy businessmen and crooked politicians do all the wrong things.

(5) Get old and cynical as you see the same cycle repeated by your own children and grandchildren.

Not my children! My kids all turned out righteous and honest. Not a crooked pol, or a lawyer in the bunch. They all do business honestly just as they were taught to do by their Mom.

Sand and Ruven are obviously who the OP is referring to, but who is this mysterious third one.

You can't be refering to someone who hardly ever posts and isn't really all that grumpy, can you?

Perhaps a misconception on my part, but I thought old and grumpy were a bit synonymous. :D Just kidding. You made me look at your post count. It seems like you post more than that, or maybe I just always notice you.

Well, you are twenty four so I guess you might view fifty as more elderly than I would. Maybe I should do this...

Before we can discuss grumpy old men, we must first define what is grumpy and what is old.

If you're older than Joe Strummer made it, then you're old.

Watch it buddy! You're hitting pretty close to home now. In the words of a country song: "I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was". Or as a friend of mine used to say "The older I get, the better I was".
