The science is shaky at best. Fragile X is not autism- it presents similar characteristics to some stereotypes of LFA, but it is not by any stretch of the imagination the same condition. Certainly Aspies and HFA individuals have no connection to Fragile X.

They've mentioned the possibility of trying this on adults. See The Speed of Dark for a possible way such a scenario might play out.

The late Kim Peek suffered from fragile X syndrome. He was not autistic and he was genuinely mentally handicapped, notwithstanding his remarkable memory abilities.

Most autistic individuals do not exhibit the structure defects in the X chromosome exhibited by unfortunate people like Kim Peek.

Actually he was thought to have FG syndrome.

Fragile X subjects have elongated face, large ears, low muscle tone, flat feet, large gonads, hyper flexing joints, etc.

If there was a questionable technology which would give me a better chance of having a high functioning aspie or schizophrenic kid, I'd experiment with that as well. I would take that over the guarantee that my kid would be just...normal.
