What really blows about this though, is the security repercussions. Remember that this guy was a private pilot. Generally pilots, even non-commercial pilots like Stack, are able to bypass some (not all) of the security checks set up for your everyday plane passenger. Even after 9/11, when airport security tightened up so much, people who owned their own planes could usually step right out onto the tarmac without so much as a second glance, because if they were trusted to fly a plane themselves, they couldn't possibly be a terrorist.
However, now that this idiot has gone and f****d things up with HIS privately owned plane, the next government crackdown isn't so much going to be on passengers but on pilots. I wouldn't be surprised if after this fiasco the government initiated a ban on non-commercial flights, or at the very least regulated the hell out of it. This is only going to cause undue hassle for private pilots, and especially for people who aspire to getting a private pilot license someday (like yours truly). Now in addition to the usual skill tests there's probably going to be a slew of background checks and domestic espionage to ensure that the the applicant isn't a malcontent (again, like yours truly, although I would never stoop as low as this mindf**k), which will reduce the chances of getting a private pilots license even less than usual, not to mention jacking the price up by another $5,000 dollars or so.
